Caligari Truespace 7.6 for free!

Hi All,

Microsoft has purchased Caligari and offers the 3D-program "Truespace 7.6" for free as collaboration-platform.

You have to register, but then you can download the program and many sample-videos (complete over 300M - here the registry+download-link: [cart1.caligari.com]

Very nice - looks like their answer to Google's purchase of SketchUp. Seems to be a more powerful program, but perhaps harder to use as well... definitely worth a look. Let us know how well it works!

i've worked with Truespace Versions 4 and 6.5 some years ago - it's a very powerfull 3D-program with a lot of tutorials and samples.

You can construct any 3D-object, animate or simulate in a physics-engine and such stuff - good for creating gaming characters and environments, but very nice for straightforward construction of 'simpler' 3D-structures as reprap-parts or objects to fab.

Look here: [www.caligari.com] for a short intro. The best way to learn the capabilities is reading the tutorials and view the related videos - very impressive.

When at home again, i'll check which import- and export-filters exists ...

For me the LWO- and 3DS-formats are essential, but some others are usefull too.

For converting into STL you can use a common 3D-converter like Meshlab
*** EDIT: found the STL-export (->Model->TS6-files->Save->Object->STL), so no need for external tools ...

Surprised to find this is still available.

I just downloaded 7.61 beta 8 and all the tutorial files and help file.

When I last looked at TS it was avery capable prog.

While I can see that lack of ongoing development might stop it becoming the product of choice over AoI, it will do me just fine for the foreseeable future.
