Trade electronics for other Mendel parts in Australia (Brisbane)

Have been thinking about a RepRap for some time now. Looking at the increased capacity of Mendel has sold me. Of course I am now running into all of the problems you guys are. Limited supply of parts in AU, I am in Brisbane.

I am however reasonably skilled, and resourced, in the electronics side. I am going to start getting the parts together to build Gen3 boards in the next month (or 3). If anyone wants to jump on board I can consolidate orders, build and test. Preferably I'd like to do this in trade for other parts, particularly the printed ones. If anyone has access to CNC/laser to mill/cut them, happy days. Otherwise I would also be able to work out a fair price to put in the kitty to fund the other parts.

Of course when (if) I get one up and running, I would love to contribute a child to the community.

I am based in Sydney, and am running into exactly the same issues you are. I can't offer you the RP parts, but would be very happy to work on an Australian-Power-Purchase of some description with you. I know there is some pent-up demand in these parts.

Just came across this RepRap device. I already have a 3 axis CNC using EMC2 to control it. I use it for drilling PCB's and cutting foam.
So my first impressions is all I need to do is build the ThermoplastExtruder. This requires one specialist part as I have access to a lathe for the other few bits.

How obtainable is the raw material in Australia?

By the way, I am Melbourne based.

I'm based in Adelaide and have a CNC machine (home-built) and lathe. I'm thinking about milling the mechanical parts from acrylic (perspex) as per the Ponoko laser-cut parts.

Deano, I sugest you join the Brisbane Hackerspace ( email list and first few attendances are free ), and come to a meeting I'm at. I have a repstrap that ( apart from minor repairs ) is pretty functional, and would be happy to show it to you and discuss how I built it, etc.
