Thanks Nophead, The Z0 command was what I was looking for. I appreciate your help! - k -by KelOfTheRockies - General
Does someone here know what Gcode command will move the Z axis to the top? I'm not looking for homing, that moves my Z to the bottom. I want a single command to move Z up to the nozzle where a print would start - Z Max in the firmware Thanks! - k -by KelOfTheRockies - General
Thanks, everyone! My heater just arrived this afternoon and I'll try to get it installed over the weekend. I, also, have an aluminum bed and plan to attach with Kapton tape. The thermistor on this one is integrated into the rubber mat. I have a power supply salvaged from an old Dot Matrix printer and judging by the 12v output wires - about 10ga - I'm confident it can put out 11A; probablyby KelOfTheRockies - General
So, now it's started hanging up again. Just did a re-calibrate on my extruder motor and the Arduino sfwr is still saying Uploading... after 15min. 12v power to the RAMPS is off, and just for good measure, I unloaded Pronterface before starting the process. other weird thing is that when I unplug the USB from the PC, the Arduino wakes up and complains that there was a problem uploading to theby KelOfTheRockies - General
Update: So I tried the upload with the 12v to the RAMPS board, and it worked just fine. Just for confirmation, I turned the 12v back on and uploaded again...worked again, just fine. Tried one more time with 12v on and the upload completes just like it's supposed to. Puzzled. Maybe more observation will point to a cause. Thanks all! - k -by KelOfTheRockies - General
Good thoughts, thanks! I was thinking that since it has a 100K thermistor built in that the RAMPS could control it. It draws 11 amps, so I would use a dedicated power supply, then have the RAMPS control a MOSFET to regulate the temp. On the right track?by KelOfTheRockies - General
Interesting. I'm just using the supplied 12v power brick and haven't made any changes to the boards. I'll try the upload with the brick disconnected and report back Thanks for the info! - k -by KelOfTheRockies - General
Hi Gang, I was looking at this item: Silicone Bed Heater to make a heated bed for my Sumpod. Has anyone here used one of these? If so, how'd it work out? Twenty bucks seems fair compared against the time and work to build one from scratch. Thanks!by KelOfTheRockies - General
so, now I gotta take it back...sort of. Been trying to print a Yoda .stl file I got from Thingaverse. Now, it's started hanging again when homing Z. I even tried slowing down the HOMING_FEEDRATE value again - 8*60 and it still stalls out and sings at me when trying to home. Needless to say, I haven't been able to print anything worth a crap so far. any more thoughts? THX!by KelOfTheRockies - General
Since I got such great and quick help earlier, I'd like to try again with another issue. This one hasn't been a showstopper for me, but I'd like to resolve it just the same. I have: Windows 7 Pro with current patches Arduino 1.0.2 Arduino Mega 2560 RAMPS 1.4 It has been working just fine, but very recently began acting up. When I upload firmware, it compiles for about 45 seconds then says itby KelOfTheRockies - General
Well okay, then. Thank you very much, Sublime; that was the problem. I found the Homing line in the Marlin firmware and changed 12*60 to 10*60 and now it homes just fine I really appreciate your help! - k -by KelOfTheRockies - General
Hi Gang, I have a problem with my Z axis. Whenever I click the Home button in Pronterface, or the Home All button, the platform starts to move down, then after a couple of inches stalls, the motor sound goes up an octave and it just sits there for about 15 seconds, then the sound stops. If I click Home again, it will move once more and if close enough to the endstop it acts like it's supposeby KelOfTheRockies - General

Thanks for the tip! I'll get the latest files from your site soon as I can print. So far, I'm still a few blocks away from turning this thing on. I'm trying to get my head around the software and what stuff, like alignment, I need to do between assembly and use. I found your heated bed blog shortly after my post, so I've been through that now. Very nice write-up, Thanks! Looked at your LCDby KelOfTheRockies - General

Hay, Airtripper! I've been following your work while trying to get my head around this - many links in my bookmarks to your stuff! I'm like a baby duck; every day I wake up to a whole new world. Thanks for the good word. It took me forever to figger out how to get a decent finish on to raw MDF. It's kinda like trying to spray-paint a sponge. I see a lot of flame in this thread, so I feel I should add my experience so far, for the potential buyer who is where I was 8 months ago. First, let me clarify that back then, I had just heard about 3d printing and knew nothing else. My skill level on building things is advanced, but I didn't even know the language and techno-speak of this world. Never heard of RepRap or Thingaverse, PLA or Kby KelOfTheRockies - General
