Quotegreenman100 Faster than any 3D printer on the market can consume it. Yes but what about in situations where you are running more then one printer 24/7 or have a deadline you need to meet but do not have filament in the required material or colour? In these situations the filastuder and similar are too slow to produce the required amount of filament or too inaccurate when the speed is increaby hjubm2 - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I had not looked at the Lyman extruder for quite a while so it looks like there is a new one out, I'll have to give it a decent look over but by the looks you are correct and it uses a more typical design of an extruder auger and it looks a lot closer to the design I am getting made in China atm but is missing a few of the more standard features of industrial machines that help to keep the flow mby hjubm2 - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Yes the Lyman is twice as fast s the Filastuder but still too slow for the amount of filament I have been going through lately plus looking for something more exacting then a thrown together extruder using an inexact drill bit. Thanksby hjubm2 - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I'm revisiting this project now that I have more time. The system I am looking to incorporate is the Keyence LS7000 series. The current plan is to set the system up to use the two sensors to get a X & Y cross section of the filament & use the reading from the system to increase or decrease the speed of the puller to affect the sizing of the filament. So any thoughts on this process? Any tby hjubm2 - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Hi All, So I've got a Filastuder to make my own filament but it's way too slow for my liking. Generally it has taken 8 hours + to make a single kg of filament so I'm in the process of making a much faster extruder. The aim of the extruder is to use a custom made 20mm extrusion screw to make filament at around 2 to 5kg per hour. With this in mind has anyone had any experience with making a machinby hjubm2 - Plastic Extruder Working Group

If your still looking for a i3 frame I may be able to help you out. I'm looking to cut out a batch on my router sometime soon. What material were you wanting the frame made out of & what design?by hjubm2 - Wanted
I've had a quick look into producing MIM Filament and it looks do-able but I can see a few problems due to the MIM Feedstock being designed to be used in a completely different way. Having said that if I can find some MIM Feedstock in Australia I will be giving this a shot to see how it comes out. Be brilliant to be able to print in this while using PLA or similar filament for support material.by hjubm2 - Polymer Working Group
The system I have on the way will be around $3k by the time I get it all to Australia, pay customs fees etc. This is for a second hand system so if it was new it would be $10k+. It uses a RS-232C connection to transfer the information. It is for making filament. My aim is to get the filament as dimensionally exact as possible to see how it effects print quality and to be able to offer this hiby hjubm2 - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Has anyone messed around with a laser micrometer to help improve the diameter accuracy of filament they have produced? I'm looking to use a dual axis Keyence laser micrometer to control the speed of a filament puller via an Arduino to try and get a combined diameter tolerance of 0.01mm or better. Basically I'm just looking to see if anyone has messed around with this idea so I have a starting poiby hjubm2 - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Thanks Rich for all your hard work, I'm sure everyone here is really appreciative of all the hard work you have put into this project. I'm planning to build this printer as soon as I have finished working out the final details for the modifications I have planned to your design. At the moment I am planning to enlarge the printer quite a lot and also add a heated chamber to the design so we'll seby hjubm2 - Delta Machines
Thanks for the help Timaz, I think I'm going to try and locate just the screw instead of a whole machine, it seems a lot easier to do that and just make a custom machine around it so any leads on where to get a decent extruder screw would be appreciated. Thanksby hjubm2 - General
Thanks for the reply Timaz. I'm looking for either a full extrusion machine for filament production or just screw for an extrusion system to be built around. The main plastics it will be used with are ABS and PC so it would need to be compatible with these two plastics. I'm after a screw diameter of around 20-25mm and a L/D ratio of around 28 but the L/D is not overly important. I'm only after aby hjubm2 - General
I'm looking to either buy or build a filament extruder to test out different types/combinations of plastics and have come across the various extruder systems and screw manufacturing services that are available from China on websites such as Alibaba. Has anyone had any experience with these products? I've been looking into getting an extruder screw manufactured for an extrusion system in Australiaby hjubm2 - General
