Brand new wiki accounts cannot post links and some other things to prevent a never-ending barrage of SPAM (thousands per DAY!). It's actually very effective, but some legit users get caught up in the filtering as well. Thankfully, the solution is simple: let the account age for a few days and during that time, make some meaningful content without links in it. Quoteclee How long do we have to wait before we don't count as new users anymore? I tried to update the CoreXY page with some more current information about Vorons, but it won't let me add any links. You can find that information here: The last rule in the list states no links are allowed if a user is less than an hour old or has less than 5 edits. I know this thread is three years old, but I recently stumbled upon it and I was curious if the server supports HTTP/3 and QUIC natively now that the implementation has had time to mature. I just tested reprap.org using Gleekflare's HTTP/3 tester and it shows that it is enabled and working.by b4ndit - Administration, Announcements, Policy
For transparency, you can view the rules here: The wiki uses custom Captcha and the AbuseFilter rules to prevent SPAM bots from destroying the wiki. Edit: I'm also following this topic, so if anybody has any questions regarding the rules in place, post your question here and I'll try to respond.by b4ndit - General
For that board to be used on a 3D printer it'll need two things: Firmware support (i.e. Marlin) A compatible printer controller board (i.e. RAMPS) Start with researching these two things to see if anything has been done before with that Arduino. If it hasn't, it may still be possible, but will require a lot of effort on your part.by b4ndit - General
That would not surprise me at all. Machine learning and AI have progressed by leaps and bounds and are very user-friendly using Python libraries. We're arriving at a point where Captchas and other "human tests" no longer work. Well, that's not entirely true. It will likely always be possible to devise a test that only a human could figure out, but the design of the test has to be such that it'sby b4ndit - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Just for fun, I have switched the Captcha over from ReCaptcha (entirely useless anymore) to a Captcha system that allows custom questions and answers. So to register an account, a user must answer a very simple question that they should know prior to joining the site or can simply research given 2 minutes of effort (i.e. Who is the creator of the RepRap Project? I think we've reached an impasse here. None of the admins are able to see this from your perspective, ayozek. Not quite. I urge you to check out the logic for each rule if you're interested, they're surprisingly human readable. Filter #8 specifically handles that condition where brand new users try to edit links into pages. There was a fleet of SPAM bots that would edit existing pages and just replace links or add links to unwanted external sites. This rule filters that behavior out. Hey guys, sorry I didn't see any of this. I haven't gotten any emails from the forum for a while, so didn't get notified (I'm rarely around the forum anymore to see the notifications otherwise). The SPAM on the wiki is primarily handled by AbuseFilter (https://reprap.org/wiki/Special:AbuseFilter). The bots are usually spamming with the goal of improving SEO of their target website, which is usually why they try spamming links (search: backlinking). In some other cases, they're just spamming advertisements. They are actually bots, as evidenced by the fact that the output they produce is often following a very similar pattern (look at their username structure, or the pattern they use on theby b4ndit - Administration, Announcements, Policy
These accounts are getting created because reCaptcha isn't stopping them (I replied to Dust's linked topic with more details). However, my stance is that it's not really causing a problem. Annoying? Yes. However, besides seeing them being created in Recent Changes, they don't pose a problem to server resources or anything else. The reason why they don't post SPAM 95% of the time is because they gby b4ndit - General
Hey Dust, I know this thread is old, but I did look into the user creation issue. I classify it mostly as an annoyance because 95% of the time, they are unable to post any SPAM. However, it does highlight just how useless reCaptcha is. My plan was to purge the obvious SPAM accounts (random firstname + random lastname + number) without any post history when the database started to fill up with tby b4ndit - Administration, Announcements, Policy
I'm taking a look. Edit: So far, it looks like the issue is related to the title of an article (likely SPAM) not being parsed right by Mediawiki. Edit 2: Issue resolved. Renamed the article in SQL and then deleted the posts by that user using the Mass Delete tool. Dust, I see you've been clearing out tons of SPAM on the wiki. That's great! If you suddenly have trouble posting to the wiki where you didn't have an issue before, let me know here. I setup the StopForumSpam extension (only on the wiki) to stop some of the bots from getting past the reCaptcha and posting SPAM. Hey PRZ, We just switched to a new server and both the forum and wiki were migrated and updated in the process. There's been a few issues here and there with both the wiki and forum that we're trying to get sorted out. Do you have a link to a page on the wiki with the issue you are experiencing? I know this forum topic is a month old now, but you shouldn't have any issues editing the wiki anymore. We're on a new server now and we fixed a lot of stuff along the way without changing the look and feel of the website.by b4ndit - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Wiki registration is currently open. New users will have to fill out a reCaptcha to register, create new pages, and edit pages. Once your account is three days old and you have 5+ edits, you should no longer see the reCaptcha every time you try to edit the wiki. If this is not the case for some reason, please let me know.by b4ndit - General
QuoteCefiar As for phpBB, The problem with phpBB is that while it works, it's not really better for administration than Phorum. Many times in the past, Captcha support has broken (automatically allowing people to register) or methods for bypassing it have been found rendering it useless.
