Hello all, I almost completed a Mendel about 5 years ago. It moves properly in 3 dimensions, but I never quite got the extruder working (it had the original design of Mendel extruder which struggled to grip the plastic) so it was never properly calibrated. I always hoped to come back to it as a project, but the years have passed by and I haven't managed to do so. It saddens me to see it goingby jcpren - General Mendel Topics

The Mendel extruder page talks about using heatshrink over the crimps that connect the nichrome wire. Looking at Maplin's site, all of the heatshrink products have "operating temperatures" far below the ~200C temperatures reached by the print head. Do this mean I need to look elsewhere, or, do the ends of the nichrome wire not reach as high a temperature as the "core"? In particular, I was intby jcpren - General Mendel Topics

Hi folks, I'm new to the RepRap project, and I'm currently ordering items to build a Mendel (or, more proabably, as Isaac). I think I may have made a mistake in ordering round bars made from aluminium instead of steel, given their tendency to bow.
