Has anyone tried the Gekko printing surface - seen it on eBay - quite expensive - don't know what it's made of? but claims to stick down ABS during the print and pop off at the end.... Not sure I believe it until I see a video or someone has tried it out - anyone? I use PET tape at the moment with heated bed at about 90 degrees, sticks well and can be removed (with some force) when cooled to aboby richrap - General
You need 7 feeds really, Clear and support material - if going from one nozzle - maybe two nozzles with 4 feeds would be easier to implement - then a mechanical switch method would be preferable instead of having 7 or 8 extruder motors. If Alessandro (Sound) is interested in getting Mixing extruders working well with Slic3r, then let's try to solve some more of the mechanical issues and get a feby richrap - General
If doing lots of tiny moves and reasonably fast acceleration settings in FW, yes. If I use a netbook pc and 250k baud with max acceleration set to 6000 in Marlin and a perimeter speed of 35mm/sec then I get noticeable slow-down when printing stretchlet bracelets or similar objects with a lot of tiny perimeter moves. Use an SDCARD and I don't get the slowdown issues at twice that speed. It does gby richrap - General
Use an SDCARD adapter, all your printing will look better, especially if you print fast and have high speed acceleration settings in your firmware. It's the only way I can get Marlin running at full speed on the mendelmax, Even 250k baud causes issues that the SDCARD interface sorts out. It's really noticeable if you try to print a single walled stretchlet bracelet at high speed, the delays causby richrap - General
Thanks richgain, that looks promising, are the bolts still very loose (I think the design was like that) your first layer also looks a little too squished. I'm going to make the switch to 0.9.3 then. I have a few standard test parts (one is a herringbone gear set) that should tell me if it's as accurate as 0.9.1 And thanks Sublime, I will experiment when the Tantillus is alive - Really love theby richrap - Competitions
I wonder if the tower would be easier to print on FFF if it was upside down? - with a little base to make it stick - or cut it in half, then print each bit upside down? Or maybe a seasonal challenge? (Halloween) - Like the look of This one, but it's not a challenging print. Start small, get issue 1 up and running with a few people. See where it takes you, it can obviously grow and as more issues are done, it will be a fantastic source for new people getting into RepRap and also a great way for long standing members to share the knowledge. This magazine could be exactly what RepRap needs, very exciting. As someone on here once said, we are an adhocracy - it may getby richrap - RepRap magazine

@Emmanuel & richgain - Are you both happy with Slic3r 0.9.3? I have only been using 0.9.1 and not yet made the jump to 0.9.3, do you see any problems? @sublime - Are you happy with any newer versions above 0.7.2b for Tantillus yet? I hope to be commissioning it soon.by richrap - Competitions

Gary beat me too it, I was just thinking of the MagPi - a great read getting better with each issue. I would also love to help, a RepRap magazine would be a popular and great read, I'm sure. You just need to do the flushing inside the objects infill so you don't waste much, and can have clean colour changes on the perimeter.by richrap - General
Thanks Viktor - I'm keen to see RepRap take the lead on this, I would be glad to help out any way I can. @Misan - exactly, could not agree more, it needs the same simplicity as Thingiverse to succeed, but hopefully also keep the RepRap culture of good things posted on it will succeed and poor things fail - at the moment on Thingiverse things become 'featured' at any time, not driven by communityby richrap - General
If you read my blog post about it, I decided not to try to remove the toothpaste effect. But it is very hard to get good mixing - Adrian Bowyer and Myles Corbett spent quite some time working on passive systems until using a motor to stir the molten filament. Also take a look and read the final report Hereby richrap - General
@richgain - No problem, glad it helped. That's looking really great! Do you have the original cast X/Y pulleys on the Huxley? or metal ones? Have you also printed it on the Mendel90 to compare?by richrap - Competitions
Ok, so many of us have been letting the dust settle over where to put models, designs and ‘things’ for the future. Many people have suggested new websites and ideas, even some from scratch. I’m personally only going to be truly happy with a RepRap.org repository for models, derivatives, source and ideas. And before anyone says the RepRap Wiki, I know we could all have lots of pages on that, buby richrap - General

I hope to do a lot more on my 3-way colour blending extruder, but the next step would be Gcode and firmware changes to dynamically support mixing. The proof of concept worked, so hopefully it can be moved on now. If anyone wants to make one and try to help move this forwards, let me know.by richrap - General

I Just quickly printed one on it's own, with my normal settings for RepRap parts - I think it came out perfectly, or at least exactly as I expected for PLA - 25% infill 1 perimeters (+extra when needed) 3 solid layers 0.3mm layers Maybe you should also add a printing time element - this sample print was 9mins 21 seconds - it could be printed a lot faster. 0.2mm layer height would make it lookby richrap - Competitions
