That's very interesting! When I was there in December he had just got the first prototype Orca 4 working, and I was sworn to secrecy (but I knew he wouldn't be able to keep it a secret!) It's a much better machine that the 3. All linear bearings, slab-sided like the 3, but smaller and neater. Easier to build, better print quality. Hmm. Hadn't seen gen6.d before ... looks good, and very reasonably priced. Here's the link if you haven't seen it. Gen6.d. They are in Singapore.by JamesHardiman - General
I wasn't saying don't report problems, I was saying don't report daily on continued non-delivery ... we all know the problem, and I for one would just get irritated with the same message every day for 50 days. ... And beware of saying you live in Eindhoven; you'll get people asking you to go round to Hurkestraat 18 to find out what's happening! ;o)by JamesHardiman - General
Soeren ... We all sympathise, but please don't tell us daily ... Took me 15 weeks to get mine, and I had to drive to Eindhoven from the UK to get it!by JamesHardiman - General
If the label is printed then it will very likely be on the next UPS collection. Printing the label is the last thing he does.by JamesHardiman - General
I couldn't possibly comment ;o) But you may not be 100 miles from the truth. Let's just say that now I'm back from Florida (this morning; still jet-lagged), I intend to finish designing and printing the LB plastics for my 2 and my 3, getting them all tuned up and working well, and selling them on eBay, just as soon as I have something better as a replacement. I couldn't possibly say what thatby JamesHardiman - General
PID: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PID_controller Basically a control mechanism that keeps things (like temperature) carefully controlled. If you enable PID control in configuration.h, then set the Hot End temperature in Pronterface, and click "Monitor Printer", and watch the green "heater" LED on the Gen6 board, you will see it come up close to temp, then the heater switches off. But it continby JamesHardiman - General
@cdnrap: I had similar problems ... Totally fixed by turning on PID control in configuration.h You just have to un-comment one line, about 2/3 of the way down the file.by JamesHardiman - General
Why two brass tubes? ... It's fundamental to the design of a hot end ... The HOT end of the hot end needs to be at (say) 230 deg C, so that the plastic melts OK. The top end needs to be less than 60 deg C, because otherwise the plastic will be too soft to push with the extruder. So there needs to be a thermal break between the bottom and the top, and, quite often, a heat sink at the top. On theby JamesHardiman - General
MakeMendel is in Mumbai, India. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it is even further away! And their business and their website seem to be a complete clone of Mendel Parts ... So who knows where the similarity stops. I'm not sure that I want to be the first to send them $500 to find out!by JamesHardiman - General
If you paid via PayPal, then you can get a refund via them.by JamesHardiman - General
I wouldn't hold your breath on him hiring a helper! Right now I'm in Florida, on vacation, and I just pledged for a PrintrBot! I will be completing my two Orcas when I get home. Ron Gerrits has posted an x-axis carriage for LBs for the O3 (probably work on O2 as well) on Thingiverse, but I have no means of checking it out here (I only have my iPad, and I have to go to Wynn-Dixie to get a half-by JamesHardiman - General
Well, we may be off topic ... but who knows? Maybe we're not! ;o) Happy Xmas ... I'm off to Florida today, back 1/1/2012, so happy new year, too.by JamesHardiman - General
@NelsonRap: Way to go on the people wanting full kits. If you ever doubt that there's enough demand to make a living, check this out: http://www.Building3DPrinters.Com/2011/12/amazing-success-of-crowd-funded-3d-printers/. What CAD are you using? I'm trying to work out which system gives the most power for the least learning curve, and am beginning to think it MAY be RapCad / OpenScad, possiblby JamesHardiman - General
I agree. I am considering setting up in business myself, but my major skills are as a trainer ... I would only supply machines in a training class, where I can be certain that everyone who leaves does so with a machine that is working, on their laptop, and that they understand enough of some CAD system that they can also design and print their own things. It takes a while to get all that in plaby JamesHardiman - General
Bank Transfer: I have often thought all sorts of things about Camiel, but never thought him dishonest or a crook. He did tell me had done the bank transfer refund. Try calling his work number quite late; it's very likely he'll be there, and is the best chance of getting him. Jamesby JamesHardiman - General
Depends why yours isn't printing! If it prints OK, then it doesn't need tweaking. Mainly, during the build stage, make sure that everything is square, or parallel, as necessary. If you run into particular problems, post them here ... there are lots of people who may answer them.by JamesHardiman - General
I am in Gubbels Engineering, right this minute, getting my O3 printing nicely (and it is, after a few tweaks that I hadn't known about, and using Slic3r 0.5.4), and starting to build my O2. I am here until Tuesday 6th at 15:00. He's shipping orders: send me your real name, and your order number, to my e-mail: james@jameshardby JamesHardiman - General
Well, we'll have to see how it works out. Right now I'm totally fascinated by the phenomenal success of the Printrbot Kickstarter project .by JamesHardiman - General
Yes. I actually had a small consortium of people willing to invest in the business and take the burden of mail order off of his hands, so he could concentrate on the development side. But when he wouldn't reply, and they saw how much bad feeling he was generating, they withdrew, and are thinking of setting up something in competition.by JamesHardiman - General
If you want a refund, and you can get hold of him, he will give you a refund. If you can't get hold of him, and you paid by PayPal, or credit card, then you have recourse there. I've no idea how you would go about getting a court order in Holland.by JamesHardiman - General
I've given up trying to work out how to get Camiel to deliver. He's a nice guy, and a great engineer, but running a mail-order business isn't rocket science. I spent hours when I was there trying to be a good mentor, giving him advice, but it's all fallen on deaf ears, apparently. He's not a crook, he's not trying to defraud anyone; he just let's the whole thing get on top of him. It's too muby JamesHardiman - General

We have got a redesign for the electronics / fan for Orca v 0.2 ... We put a hole in the POM sheet, with the fan behind, and then the electronics in front, facing in, mounted using magnets so they can be easily lifted off if you need to. There are designs on Thingiverse, with airflow tubes built in, but to my eye, they look worse ... there can be a sort of "techno-chic", provided all the wires aby JamesHardiman - General

Sorry for the dealy ... had a crap day (I'm starting to sound like Camiel!) I've just begun uploading a load of pictures to Flikr. I'm fairly new to Flikr, and my existing e-mail is used to load up pictures from my Nordic Walking business, so I've created an account using my dog's e-mail address! The Flikr account is called "ThreeDeePrinterBuilder". There are two types of pictures: Hi-res pby JamesHardiman - General
OK; we will take that as our guideline. I'm hoping to go this week or next, if everything works out. Jamesby JamesHardiman - General
Well, with two other people I have set up a company, http://www.Building3DPrinters.com, and we will be supplying Orca v0.35 ... it's like an Orca 3, but it has linear bearings (makes it work smoother and is easier and quicker to build), and a bunch of other cool things. So far we have two Orca v0.25 working, and we're half-way through modifying my Orca 3 ... I have linear bearings on the Z axisby JamesHardiman - General
Hi, Malx, Yes, we are definitely going, soon. I haven't managed to contact Camiel, but this morning I have been e-mailing with a mate of his, who is going round to see him! Two things have to happen before we actually schedule our trip: 1) My friend who is coming with has to get his passport renewed (he did say he'd go sit in the passport office until it was done!) 2) I need confirmation frby JamesHardiman - General
Anx, my turn to apologise to you ... I have made some pictures for you, then forgot to upload them. They are part of my book, so I will put them on my website. Check out later today. I will create a Flickr account, upload them, then post on that website.by JamesHardiman - General
