Unfortunately, the printed bearings I received with my printed parts were not usable so early on I tried running with nylon bushings that I turned on my lathe. That didn't work as well as I liked so I drilled them out and sleeved them with brass inserts. That worked much better. Sliding a single bushing along the the shaft is pretty smooth. The acrylic for the carriage is 3mm. Thanks, I'll hookby wingnut - Tantillus
I installed the cables for the X/Y and tightened them according to the build guide procedure. When I was done, I tried moving the carriage around by hand and was surprised by how much friction I felt. I was expecting to move the carriage around with just light fingertip pressure but I found that it was a bit stiffer then that. I realize that this is subjective but I was expected almost no frictiby wingnut - Tantillus
guess I'll punt on the heat bed for now. ordered some pla . should be able to melt some plastic this weekend. I did notice that the common heatbeds sold on fleebay are nothing more than printe circuit boards and the source files are open source. It would be simple enough to resize the boards for the tantillus. If I do end up going that route, would anyone here be interested in one?by wingnut - Tantillus
Finally making some progress with my build. Thanks again to Nyarlathotep's for the printed parts. I'll post some pics tonight but I have couple of question. I'd like to install a heated bed but I can't find much info on how this works with the Tantillus. There are lots of heated beds on ebay but they are all for larger printers. Also, does the heated bed take the place of the second layer of acryby wingnut - Tantillus
Thank you Nyarlathotep! The parts arrived and they are amazing. You've restored my enthusiasm for 3D printing. I hope to get the chance to pay it forward one day.by wingnut - Tantillus
Meh. Seems paranoid to me. My pin is right over my bedroom.by wingnut - Tantillus
hmm. One pin is in the middle of a zoo, another is in a strip mall.. Are people just being secretive?by wingnut - Tantillus
That was fast. Heck of alot nicer then what I now. Thanks! Will pm you my address.by wingnut - Tantillus
Oh wow! That would be awesome. I think all I need are the gears for the extruder and the bottom half of the carriage. I own a lathe so I plan on turning some nylon bushings to replace the printed ones. I'd be happy to turn a few extra if anyone else would like to try the doing the same. Thanks!by wingnut - Tantillus
Sublime's printed parts would no doubt be a work of art but at $250, I'm not convinced that they represent a good value. He said himself that he could print good a set in 40 hours. Using his own numbers, that comes out to $80 for print time + material cost. If he's at the point now where he's not interested in selling merely good parts, then I can respect that. For my part, I'm checking out someby wingnut - Tantillus
I really think you sould find out! I know a guy who can use the parts when you're done....by wingnut - Tantillus
Two big factors that lead to my choosing the Tantillus where the fact that I had access to free laser cutting and finding the printed parts kit on ebay for $60. The jurry is still out on whether the printed parts are serviceable. If it turns out that they are not then I may end up switching to a Prusa.by wingnut - Tantillus
I ended up finding some acrylic that was slightly undersized (around 5.7mm) . interesting how many people suggested printing my own parts. this will be my first printer so its not an option. I take it that most tantillus owners start out with something else? is there something a about a tantillus that makes it a bad first printer?by wingnut - Tantillus
That breakdown is interesting Sublime. So how long does it take to print a full set for the Tantillus? Thanks for the pic SkyArcher. That's something to think about.by wingnut - Tantillus
Ohhh. Kay.. I guess this isn't going to work. This is the result of trying to press a bearing into the bottom of the extruder: I've contacted the seller and he seems like a nice enough guy. He offered to replace the broken parts (six pieces after a more thorough inspection) and even offered to throw in the acrylic carriage spacer which I'm missing from my cut parts. But, at this point confidenby wingnut - Tantillus
OK. Based on your response, I'm leaning toward replacing the printed pulleys with aluminum GT2 pulleys off ebay but just using the rest of the parts. I guess I can always print my own parts when I get the printer going. Thanks for the help.by wingnut - Tantillus
Same seller. Glad to hear that he stands behind his work. Am I being too picky? Do these parts look ok to you? Any thoughts on the pulleys? Did yours look like the ones above? Did they work?by wingnut - Tantillus
Ordered printed parts from Ebay. This is my first experience holding a printed part and I have to say that I'm disappointed. This the first time I've held a printed part in my hand so I'm trying to reserve judgement but these things look really rough. In fact all of the upper corner supports all have at least one crack along the 'grain' of the plastic. Another wrinkle is that I received what appby wingnut - Tantillus
Here in the US, I can buy 1/4 acrylic locally. Will that work with printed parts made for 6mm? Is it close enough.by wingnut - Tantillus
