there is non market for these ebay, nothing... so i guess building is better.by muelli - Laser Cutter Working Group
Hello forum, originally, I wanted to upgrade my Mendel90 3D printer with a laser head to make PCBs. Thinking about that, I came to the conclusion, that it might be better to start with a clean 2D design only for use with the laser. Is there a design to start with? Does someone know of a 2D kit with stepper motors and controller? thanks!by muelli - Laser Cutter Working Group
thanks, that solves some of the uncertainties!by muelli - Mendel90
yes, so much unclear what controller? what firmware? how to finally create gcode? how to mount the laser or the fiber? and of course the biggest issue, what laser? I almost think it would be easier to build something from scratch...by muelli - Mendel90
thanks, will check the info edit: checked the sources, i guess i am out. looks way to complicated.by muelli - Mendel90
Do you really need 2W to "burn" the blackened PCBs? THat is a lot... And why do you need to focus the laser? Is it not powerful enough to use the laser "as is"? What setup have you been using? I saw on the earlier pages, that you seem to have built your own driver... Are there any details on your setup? On the exact laser used, how it is fitted to the reprap, how is the focussing part done, etc?by muelli - Laser Cutter Working Group
@nophead: thanks for the info, so the technical side should work. Of course laser goggles are essential! I would not recommend working with lasers and not wearing the suitable goggles for the correct wavelength. @isolt: Is the DVD writer laser powerful enough for such things? Considering the Gcode, I have actually no idea how this can be done. I want to use the laser setup to create PCBs and mby muelli - Mendel90
Hi there, I am interested in creating the PCBs, what laser and setup did you use for creating the PCBs? Is there a finished lasermodule available for that job? thanks!by muelli - Laser Cutter Working Group
Hello Forum, has anyone tried to replace the extruder on a Mendel90 with a blue 445nm 1W laser _without any modifications_ to the electrical part? I mean, without building a special driver etc. but have the laser operate with its own driver? The common 1W lasers require around 1.1A @ 8-12V for the complete module+driver. I do not know what the power consumption of the JHead 0.4mm heating elemtby muelli - Mendel90
yes, it is an arm for the crossfire mk2 ... the mk1 was nice, but had its weaknesses..by muelli - Mendel90
Yesterday I startet printing something with support on, but after 1h into the print, my support broke of. I did not want to cancel the print and continued. To my surprise the support structure "repaired" itself shortly before it was needed It was very funny to see, so I share it with you.by muelli - Mendel90
hi forum, I need to print some parts that even when layed out diagonally seem to be a few mm larger than the 200x200mm print bed. as we have a little more height than the advertised 200mm (I have measured and set 203.xx mm in the firmware), what is the absolute maximum for the printbed? has someone tried this and can offer some test values? thanks!by muelli - Mendel90
oiling the smooth rods will do nothing, neither good nor bad, as every bearing comes with an oil seal on every side which just pushes the oil to the end of the rods. thats about it :-)by muelli - Mendel90
why do you need a new PSU? is the one supplied by nophead not ready for wide input voltage of 90-240V?by muelli - Mendel90
gerdh, nice chamber! could you give dimensions of the metal and plexiglas parts? thanks!by muelli - Mendel90

the last matterhacker solution works without any additional hardware. I posted that in a thread around here somewhere... found it:by muelli - Mendel90
yes, I took 12V from the cooling fan line. not a problemby muelli - Mendel90
hi garry, thanks, but i think it is not a extremely good print. to fast perimeters. should have slowed them down. i used pla and kisslicer for this! i started to love kisslicer but unfortunatly it seems to be a dead project :-( the print bed is one of the mtplus beds, and everythng sticks great on it. abs is almost impossible to remove :-) never printed on something better.by muelli - Mendel90
here is mine, printed with 35mm/s which was a little fast for this tiny object. but it came out quite nicely!by muelli - Mendel90
nophead: The duct did not touch the head when I installed it. I was printed perfeclty and looked like yours. For some reason the heat coming from the nozzle must have made the "abs" wobbly and it bent and touched the silicone tape. I have already new material here and will print a new duct later and see what happens.by muelli - Mendel90
it was sold as abs, and smells horribly while printing, but meanwhile i am not so sure anymore. i printed the fan duct with it, and the part close to the nozzle melted yesterday (at least i discovered it yesterday) and is stuck to the red silicone tape. how is that possible with abs? strange. i ordered some abs from anther dealer and will see what happens with that. if you set a minimum layer tiby muelli - Mendel90
FOr some reason it seems to be working now, I am using FF 25.0.1 and the viewer is showing what is being fed via serial. However, the progress indicators are stuck at 100%. Well, it's a startby muelli - Mendel90
funny enough, I only have problems with the temperature of the material being to high when printing ABS. The amount if heat being transported into the object by the layers in print is way to big, so everything gets wobbly etc. I have to use the fan in the same way as if I where printing PLA to get some relatively good results. Maybe some settings are not correct, as I seem to be the only one withby muelli - Mendel90
No, I still have not changed them, I baulk the trouble in replacing them :/ I already got new ones, but these are also the common "08/15" ones (german saying for very cheap and common things *g*) and not very high grade.....by muelli - Mendel90
