That should be OK. Simon's written a guide at The max temperature is governed by two things: 1. Where the device ceases to behave according to its characteristic, but still works. 2. Where it physically starts to break down (usually because the epoxy encapsulating it can't stand the heat). Glass bead types can get pretty hot. In short, the top limit is the point above which the manufacby Adrian Bowyer - Developers
Zach (and all of us) want the STL files for Darwin to be out there. Simon has quite rightly said that they are one of the things that are a bit of a load on the versioning system. I have a proposal: I check all the STL file _names_ into Subversion (using touch) empty. Then Ed'n'I put a big tarball with all the bloated STLs out of SolidEdge up as a download on the Bath server. I agree with all that Zach just said. So what it comes down to is that we need to be able to add command-line arguments to AoI to specify an input file, a named triangulated object in that file, and an STL file to write that to. Shouldn't be too hard... -- Best wishes Adrian Dr Adrian Bowyer _______________________________________________ Developers mailing list Deveby Adrian Bowyer - Developers

The problem is the simulation window - all those rectangular segments really chew up the memory. There's code in there to get rid of all but the last layer and replace it with a slice of the original model, but I haven't debugged it yet. However, it should be simple to get it to junk all but the last layer (leaving that hanging in space), which'll save a lot of memory. Best wishes Adrianby Adrian Bowyer - Developers

The design is frozen, but I think this is serious enough to count as a bug, and so we can make a change. What do people think about including an 8A PCB-mounted fuse at the same time? I was going to make it A0, which is quite big (the whole thing is legible even at A4). Pic is of ARNIE - to be replaced by D. asap. From what you say I think we need two: "commercial" and "academic" (the latter being the one I did, and being a bit more restrained...) Anyone want to do the commercial version? I've done a draft of a poster for use at conferences and exhibitions. It's at in the Presentations and Talks section. Improve at will! Actually, the simplest thing to do is to put a diode bridge on the input. Then it'll work whichever way you plug it in. We could add that to the comms board. Or we could put one on every board (Ah! No we couldn't - the data signals need a common ground; thinking about it, this might mess up the RS232 also). But anyway there's a problem: this wastes 1.4 volts out of the power supply. Can't see anything obviously wrong from the pix. The earthing error that Vic is refering to happens when two physically separate devices have different or unconnected ground lines. In the UK (and, I suspect, NZ) everything is grounded by the third pin on the mains plug, so this problem almost never rears its head. But I know a lot of US mains is just 2-pin. Two 2-pin devices will be 'fby Adrian Bowyer - Developers

This is brilliant Zach. One thing - is it possible to add a "Units" field to "quantity"? Good point(s). This brings up the whole question of the translation of the RepRap site into other languages (the Babelfish attempt is semi-useful, but clearly needs a helping hand).
