Hi Ian, It was certainly confusing seeing both ways to fix the bed with only the shorter screws provided. At the time Adrian's way looked more correct! I had not been aware of the autoleveling feature at the outset of assembling the hardware and thus any out of true of any axis movement was unsettling. All is now clear Graham.by mandeng - Ormerod
@Ian, Yes indeed you did answer my question and more! It's very much appreciated and gives me a good insight into how the X-carriage and print-head were designed to work together. I also understand that when in printing pre-determined compensation is applied to the head positioning to ensure any alignment corrections are accounted for. This alays any concern I had over observing the X-axis armby mandeng - Ormerod
@Ian, I take your point re. X-axis alignment and the varying thickness of the X-carriage to not be significant. With regard to the print head X-axis movement, I made an effort to try to remove any rotational slack believing the flat of the print-head assembly, on the other side of the X-carriage to the bearing, should slide along it always touching it, believing that setting the slack to an abby mandeng - Ormerod
@Ian, et al, I await replacement black acrylic pieces for the X-Axis to correct the varying plate thickness discovered. I had reached the full hardware, with electronics, assembly by the weekend just gone (I purchased Kit #44 - and reckon the full assembly took me three long evening sessions - say 21 hours). But then unfortunately, I had to take time out before looking into getting the electroniby mandeng - Ormerod
@Ian, Sorry Ian, my message crossed your posting! Many thanks, I will email you re. the X-carriage bits. I should add some points I puzzled over for a while whilst building the Ormerod: 1. I only noticed the position of the IR sensor lurking in one of the images, but no details written on it's fitting. At first I thought it required 3mm screws to self tap - only to realise there were 2.5mm scby mandeng - Ormerod
@markbee & @Ian - (for RepRap) I appreciate your feedback markbee, confirming the varying thickness X-acrylic pieces, I am not alone I do see that only the main X-Carriage acylic plate is of concern re. the print head accuracy. Does the print head depend on its weight to ensure it says in alignment, or should the thickness of the X-carriage acrylic plate matter given the head sits loosly wby mandeng - Ormerod
Hi Ian, I have so far only completed the assembly of the mechanical aspects of the Ormorod, but I have encountered a challenging problem relating to the thickness of the black acrylic X-axis main guide with it's rib. I have found the thickness varies, its thinner towards the back. As a result the print head assembly is firmly held with the single 9mm dia. ball bearing, but only when in the froby mandeng - Ormerod
