Well, I finally installed the aluminum bed and cleaned up the wiring. I ditched the printed linear bearing holder things and zip tied the bearings directly to the aluminum bed. It rides a little lower now and I had some clearance issues with the verticle acrylic frame but I just notched it out a little. This bed makes a WORLD of difference. Waltermixx, just wanted to give you a big THANKS! for starting this thread. Without it, I don't think I'd be printing with this printer and would probably just bought a pre made printer like the XYZ or something as my first printer. I'm glad I went down this road. I've learned so much.by mikez104 - Prusa i3 and variants
QuoteWaltermixx Looks like you need to get closer to the build plate. you should also use hairspray as an adhesive. make sure you properly level your build plate, it will take a while to get the hang of it, dont get discuraged... but you will have to make a bit of an effort... and once you sort it out, it will take less and less time to do it before you print... also, make sure you level theby mikez104 - Prusa i3 and variants

Quoterich1812 Hi jjbunn, I checked the bed, the resistance between pin 1 and 2, as well as pin 1 and 3 are very low but consistence, so there is nothing wrong with the bed. This morning I got up the first thing I did was to re-wire the negative to pin 2 and 3, reloaded the firmware. Magically, IT WAORKS!!!! May but the printer needs a good night of sleep too. Quotecoldfront Hey KeyserSoze3d, Did you design the Spool Holder yourself or grab the stl files from somewhere? If so could you post where you got it? QuoteKeyserSoze3d I built a spool holder using those bearings. I built this one. It works great.by mikez104 - Prusa i3 and variants
Quotecoldfront I ordered the MK2 Aluminium Bed from Folger this week it should be here tomorrow. I ended up ordering this one even though my wooden bed is working very well now. QuoteWaltermixx Evidently the wholes for the nuts on the acrylic frame are designed to be larger on one side than the other to allow you to put the nut in, without it falling out. so if you cannot get the nut in, it could be that you are going in the wrong side of the whole... give it a shot? The last few people seem to be running into the same thing I did. The nuts most definitely not fit intby mikez104 - Prusa i3 and variants
Quotejrcaster I got my kit delivered today. Inventoried the box, and the only problem was that the upright that holds the RAMPS is cracked on the top right between the nut holders. QuoteKeyserSoze3d Same here, I can still level mine but one of the corners the screw is compressed all the way, so if it warps anymore I'm screwed. I was considering getting one of folger techs aluminum beds. I was curious to see how thick/heavy it was. It may be worth the 14 dollars to have a bed I can level, but i would hate for it to cause my stepper to skip steps. SO this weekend I had mineby mikez104 - Prusa i3 and variants
I made the new bed and it's working well. I think why the original one warped so badly was that I was trying to level the bed and those printed linear bearing holders were so out of whack that I was making wild adjustments to compensate. That put a lot of stress on the bed and when it got hot, it would just bend. I sanded the linear bearing mounts down to get them to match the best I could. Sby mikez104 - Prusa i3 and variants
I see some aluminum beds on ebay. That may be the direction I turn to for the long term. This printer would be awesome if the whole frame was aluminum. But then again, it would not have been this cheap...by mikez104 - Prusa i3 and variants
Anyone besides me having issues with the acrylic bed warping? Mine is so badly warped that I can't even level it. That's were 90% of my printing issues have been coming from. I'm going to cut one from some 1/8" birch plywood tomorrow and use the old one as a drill guide. Friggin acrylic is more problems than it's worth.by mikez104 - Prusa i3 and variants

QuoteKeyserSoze3d What are you guys doing about wires. Mine are horrible. My printer its trapped in a very colorful spider web. Made my first real print tonight. I made a spool holder from ABS and it did not turn out too bad. Nothing really went wrong during the print. I'm still getting the "chain" look to the extrusion though.
