Just upgraded to the V rails on X and Y axis and lead screws for the Z axis. Loving it. Is there any benefit to attempting to change the Z axis to a rail+ gantry + lead screw type of system? Completely get rid of the smooth rods? Also, what is the recommended STL for adding a cooling fan plus a BL Touch to the stock hot end/extruder?by Toxic0n - Prusa i3 and variants
The Angry Bee is up and has been running wonderfully two months now, the thread has been an invaluable resource. All parts in yellow were printed on the printer itself. Now trying to get Woodfill to print well... Two questions: 1) Shortening the wires. I'm not looking forward to splicing/soldering tens of wires. Is there a place to buy the connectors so I can just cut the ends and crimp the newby Toxic0n - Prusa i3 and variants
QuoteTrilithon Just got my kit, everything looks good. Time to do some reading before building. Also, thanks for the pack of Jelly Belly jelly beans .... I ate them, were they supposed to be used for something else? Tril Aha, i wasn't the only one. I ate mine after I finished the build lolby Toxic0n - Prusa i3 and variants
Whats is the advantage of belted extruders? Lighter and more precise?by Toxic0n - Prusa i3 and variants
How accurate are the printing estimations in Repetier/Slic3r? When I was printing at 0.4 and 0.3mm layer height, I thought they were pretty close. Printed these Z mounts at 0.2mm for the first time last night and the ETA said 2:44 and it took over 5 hours? 60mm/s printing speed. On the flip side, they look good!by Toxic0n - Prusa i3 and variants
So I've calibrated the extruder, adjusted the stepper voltages, printed out some new bearing holders, leveled the bed. I'm getting decent prints for boxy parts (mounts, end stops etc) but seeing some separation? on more complex objects. Here's a Yoda I printed. Folger ABS, 240/105c, 0.3mm layer height, 80mm/s printing speed, no support and 3 perimiter walls. About 20c ambient with some drafts.by Toxic0n - Prusa i3 and variants
Quotetherippa QuoteToxic0n Any recommendations for an upgraded Y carriage bearing holders? I'm not sold on the zip tie approach. I found one for X carriage, but nothing for Y. Also, the right side X axis mount (where the motor is attached)? The rod holes were slightly too small so I had to dremel them out so I'd rather print a new one now. I remixed these to fit the Folgertech - Thanks, that'by Toxic0n - Prusa i3 and variants

Haha yup, I saw that in the wiki. I read through most of this thread while waiting for the printer to arrive, lots of good info in here. I will try messing with the rods tonight. I can't print yet but will be able to soon. Hopefully!by Toxic0n - Prusa i3 and variants
Did anyone else get a bag of jelly beans in their package? A happy accident or a little reward for when I finish putting it together? My kit was missing all the M3x8mm screws, I guess this almost makes up for it. Any advice on aligning the Z axis? I don't think mine are perfectly align as the movement on the Z axis is not as smooth and it feels like it is binding at the bottom part a bit.by Toxic0n - Prusa i3 and variants
