A more mordern wiki program would be nice. Some social media integration could be niceby Idolcrasher - General
just for fun, here is on of the prior prototypesby Idolcrasher - General
Hi All, Here is a shot in the dark. I am interested in your thoughts on a 3D printed interface for attaching or removing a limb/link from a modular robot. It is for a theoretical space-bound robot. I will upload some pics of prototyped versions that have already been built shortly. The goal is to make the robot as 3D printable as possible, if not self-replicating. Thanks for your thoughts!by Idolcrasher - General
"Maggie" looks amazing so far Keep up the amazing work. I am very interested in building oneby Idolcrasher - Delta Machines
Johann the infamous creator of the Rostock Delta Bot 3D printer, is making great strides on his next 3D printer design, the Kossel. The 3D files (STLs) for the Kossel just got a big overhaul on Johann's GitHub Kossel page. On May 28th, he released a video of the Kossel determining the levelness of its print surface with a retractable probe. I printed a set of parts, and the the design seemsby Idolcrasher - General
Hello There, I have printed a set of the brand spankin new iteration of Kossel Parts and have made them available for purchase on the eMaker store. The Kossel is a nifty Delta Bot designed by the same fellow who designed the Rostock Printer. I have included extra prints of the primary parts to keep your stress level down in case you break some. I am not looking for big bucks, just enoughby Idolcrasher - Plastic RepRap Parts for Sale
ok, the parts on this machine are looking much better now. thanks for all your advice. One of the primary culprits was the "Randomize starting points" feature in Slic3r. It was causing some weirdness with starting and stoping locations in curved objects.by Idolcrasher - General
calm down friends Everybody chillax I've done and redone the Slic3r single wall calibration. That is my go-to calibration. The single wall pieces look fine and dandy. Some of my prints are still getting these little dots. Is this a retraction problem, or an over extrusion problem? Increasing retraction did not seem to get rid of the dots. Who has thoughts on the dots? One side smoby Idolcrasher - General
Those are in vogue right now. I saw one of the admins talking them up years ago. They seem to be gaining popularity since Prusa used them on the i3.by Idolcrasher - General
That was a nice pic BTW Wait, your box is not closed lol. No support on the archby Idolcrasher - General
I tend to agree with everything you say. I did a few extrusion calibration tests and everything came out perfectly, which then leads me to think that my extrusion width is actulaly a bit low for my nozzle. I am now adjusting my layer width from 0.44 to 0.51 based on a free extrusion that I just did. With a layer height of 0.231818 my width vs. height ratio is now 2.2 I am running a bit hot beby Idolcrasher - General
Good Day All, I recently built a hybrid RepRapPro Mendel / Ecksbot. I am getting some hit or miss results with it. I thought I would print out a torture test and ask for what adjustments you think are in order I am using Slic3r 0.9.8. I won't contaminate your thought process by telling you what settings I am using exactly I am particularly interested in your thoughts on how to smooth theby Idolcrasher - General
I wouldn't get down in folks who use expensive/obscure programs/file types. I have seen some kind folks release files on old/obscure/expensive programs whose true intentions were to make their design available to others. I think it is who does-not/will-not release a BOM and/or omits STL/DXF files that don't rate calling their machine open source.by Idolcrasher - General
I am eager to see your micro factory in actionby Idolcrasher - General
Good point about newbs not needing STL files lol. woah woah woah, I never said I have the best printer. Truly, joking attitudes are sometimes hard to portray in text form. I have built a few really good printers. But I would not call myself the best. I would say my printing ability is average++ I have simply been put off recently by the open source claims a few kit sellers have been throwinby Idolcrasher - General
@PolyGonHell I agree completely. I am also grateful that folks take time to post up info about their designs. My disgruntled example was aimed at larger kit machine developers who claim their machine is open source, but is essentially not build-able without essentially self-reinventing the original design.by Idolcrasher - General

@Xiando I am not advocating not spending the appropriate time learning how these machines work. If you look at the fictional example at the top, I am advocating that designers try to release the design files needed to build the machine in question. I don't need step by step instructions, or even a B.O.M. really (though it would be good for new folks) One does however require the STLs and DXFsby Idolcrasher - General
@Sublime A lot of your sentiments I have read in other posts leads me to believe that you think you are hot stuff. You often talk about how if other people can't build a machine, it is because they are inferior to you. What makes you so special? What did you cure? Who did you heal? Where did you serve? Where did you study? Frankly, I think you are not very valuable. I think you know itby Idolcrasher - General
Its an open forum my man. No such thing as a final word.by Idolcrasher - General
I am sensing a strong sentiment of judgement against those whom you deem "below you"...by Idolcrasher - General
@Sublime Where does this sense of self importance come from that you want to label the nameless masses brainless? I am a Naval Academy Graduate and a Space Systems engineer, and even I attempt to recognize that we are all human beings in the same race called life...by Idolcrasher - General
Admittedly yes. I also think that plenty of folks out there are confusing Open-Source with marketing strategyby Idolcrasher - General
Otherwise, it is a cash grab directed at selling kits.by Idolcrasher - General
Intentions don't hold up in court, but I think intentions define how "Open Source" a design is. If a design is truly opensource, you can tell that the designer intended for others to be able to reproduce the design. Since intentions are more or less not quantifiable; it is my opinion that all designs for machine made objects, schematics for hand made objects, and a B.O.M. for vitamins are requiby Idolcrasher - General
If I released the 3D files for the plastic faring of a motorcyle; that motor cycle's design is not open source.by Idolcrasher - General
A fair point. I guess all I can personally do to combat this, is to make sure that anything I release as open sources is actually a viable machine with all information for building it available.by Idolcrasher - General
Sorry if I came across with a lack of love. I am a huge RepRap Pro fan. When folks ask me where to buy a kit I tell them to buy RepRap Pro. Hell, I tell people that buy printed parts from me that they should really consider buying a kit from RepRapPro instead Looking forward to the development of the new RepRap Pro designsby Idolcrasher - General
Fair enough It just irritates me that folks use Open Source as a banner while they have not provided the needed info to actually build the product in question. No particular case in point. I just seem to find this all over the place.by Idolcrasher - General
I wouldn't. I can't make it.by Idolcrasher - General
