I'm not a electronics expert but i think FPGA or CPLDs are the way to go since for the most part the difficult math is done on a computer before a print, leaving the micro controller within its limits as far as running the machine and as far as expanding what it can do you would probably be much better with dedicated hardware like a usb controller or lcd controller that will take care of all theby mellis - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
Ahh i have played with solidworks before and eghhh its just so difficult to use i would say check out autodesk 123D its free and pretty powerful.by mellis - 3D Design tools

Ok so basically i got pretty annoyed with the way mendel worked in some aspects so i decided it was a good idea to see if i could do any better. keep in mind my machine is in alpha and not ready for the general public but i would like to get a small team of developers (maybe 5 or so people) to help me to build on what i have done already. please check it out at yarrd.co.uk < there is picturby mellis - General

yeh well you can order the printed parts, the mechanical parts and the electrical parts separately instead of the whole kit. I ship any where in the world but postage may be quite expensive to some places. thanks mattby mellis - For Sale
everything apart from the power supply, serial to usb converter, mdf bordes, the copper pipe and fire cirment for the extruder. but i can add the power supply and serial to usb cable to the kit and the mdf and so on can be found in most hard where sores. thanks mattby mellis - For Sale
sorry for the double post but the kits will be around £300-£500 range depending on various options. thanks mattby mellis - For Sale
