Printer #1

Hardware

Clonedel plastic parts from Metrix Create:Space with SAE / Imperial vitamins, resulting in a near duplicate of an SAE Prusa Mendel with a Wade's Geared Extruder

Electronics

Firmware

Software

ReplicatorG 0024 by attempting to follow ReplicatorG-Skeinforge-RAMPS.

I'm also experimenting with a dev version of RepSnapper.

Important Measurements

For use with firmware as well as software:

  • Overall
    • 3mm feedstock and a 0.50 mm nozzle
    • Stepper motors are 1.8° per step or 200 steps per revolution
    • Driven by Pololu A4983 drivers with 1/16th microstepping
  • X & Y axes
    • 8 tooth pulley using XL drive belt
      • (steps per motor revolution) ÷ (drive belt teeth per revolution) ÷ (belt pitch OR distance between belt teeth) = steps per millimeter
      • 200 (without microstepping) ÷ 8 (default pulley) ÷ 5.08 mm = 4.921 steps per mm
      • With 1/16 microstepping = 78.74 steps per mm
    • 10 tooth pulley (10t XL Pulley for SAE Prusa Mendel by BenJackson) using XL drive belt
      • 200 (without microstepping) ÷ 10 ÷ 5.08 mm = 3.937 steps per mm
      • With 1/16 microstepping = 62.99 steps per mm
  • Z axis
    • 5/16"-18 threaded rod
      • (steps per motor revolution) ÷ (pitch of the thread) = steps per millimeter
      • 200 (without microstepping) ÷ (25.4 ÷ 18 or 1.411) = 141.732 steps per mm
      • With 1/16 microstepping = 2267.72 steps per mm
  • Extruder
    • 5/16" hobbed bolt
      • (steps per motor revolution) × (gear ratio) ÷ (pinch wheel diameter × π)
      • 200 (without microstepping) × (39 ÷ 11 = 3.545) ÷ (7.08 × π = 22.242) = 31.880 steps per mm
      • With 1/16 microstepping = 510.08 steps per mm

Printer #2

Hardware

Salvaged vitamins from Printer #1 to reuse for Printer #2. Prusa i2 with modifications to the SCAD files to use SAE / Imperial vitamins. All plastic parts made from red ABS.

Electronics

Firmware

Software

  • Primarily using Cura

Important Measurements

For use with firmware as well as software:

  • Overall
    • 3mm feedstock and a 0.35 mm nozzle
    • Stepper motors are 1.8° per step or 200 steps per revolution
    • Driven by Pololu A4983 drivers with 1/16th microstepping
