Which plastic to start with?

Hello All

I am getting close to being ready to actually start extruding and was wondering which type of plastic should I start with.

The machine will be (once completed) a bog standard Mendel with Adrians extruder and no heated bed.

Cheers

ABS is the easiest to extrude and build with but you will only be able to make small objects without a heated bed.

Yes, without a heated bed PLA is definitely the way to go.
However, even with PLA when the object gets large enough then you can also start getting noticeable bending.

I sucessfully printed a 90mm x 120mm web cam table with black 4032D PLA that only showed slight bending.

I have no printing experience yet, but have done a lot of reading lately.

What stayed in my mind is:
-PLA will be having less warping trouble
-when you build a mendel with PLA parts, you can get into trouble printing ABS (the PLA might deform due to the high ambient temperature, more risk when also using a heated bed
-PLA is bio-degradable, but not in your own backyard.....
