Greetings, this is just a heads-up to let you know that Slic3r 0.8.4 has native support for brim. smiling smiley

Okay, I should learn how to browse thread pages and avoid repeating myself. confused smiley

Hi,

here is the skeinforce module I changed today. Now you have a parameter "Brim Width". If you use it, change the gap over perimeter to 0.5

Just replace your old skirt.py by this one and enjoy. smiling smiley

"final" version. smiling smiley

Leaves original skirt function working. Just set Brim Width to a value > 0 if you want to use a brim.

Ok, I got the Warping Test thingy done. Ran three tests and already the results are interesting. Halving the print speed had a clear effect, but much smaller than reducing the perimeters and fill density. Didn't have time to try this with a brim, though.

Very nice. I finally got this test piece to print with it. 10mm x 10mm x 50mm tower. It's a temperature calibration piece. That's the sixth attempt. The first five failed. Only two actually failed because of temperature. The other three disconnected from the print surface.

Yeah... there's a reason I didn't post that as an image. Is it just me or is almost all of it too big to fit the forum?

I wish the forum would resize images. You can still right-click on the image and view it by itself, that way your browser will resize it so it is all visible.

To get them the right size I have to scale them to about 6" wide in photoshop.

Yeah, it is a little odd the pictures are not scaled properly.

I would love to help fund some kind of Professional Reconstruction of RepRap.org;

I would love to see a RepRap kickstarter/indie-gogo campaign whose goal is to raise funds for the purpose of helping build the RepRap Site and Community.

Hello!

I change skirt.py for a better brim.

Brim starts from outer diameter downto internal. Its better.

New code for skirt.py:
For self.brimLine in xrange(self.repository.brimWidth.value-1, self.brimLine, -1):

Nice idea, this way if you are using the skirt to get sure the extruder is primed, you can use the brim instead.

Here's an updated skirt.py for people who don't want to bother doing the code modification themselves.

Most of my technical comments should be correct, but is THIS one ?
Anyway, as a rule of thumb, always double check what people write.

hi guys,

i'm using Skeinforge through SFACT and Repetier Host,

anyone knows if the new skirt.py with grim works in this set-up ?

i've tried it and i get an error message when slicing:

skirt.py, line 270, in getHorizontalXIntersectionstable
euclidean.addXIntersectionsFromLoopForTable(loop, horizontalXIntersectionsTable, self.edgewidth)
AttributeError: SkirtSkein instance has no attribute 'edgewidth'

maybe i'm using incompatible versions of SFCAT and/or SKeinforge ? If so , where do i see which version i'm using ?

thanks for your guidance

Thanks for bringing this thread back. I've been trying to fight abs warping for the past few weeks. This worked a treat first time round.

Now I know how Brim works.

Attached is an update to the Brim feature. It is based on the most recent version posted by DeuxVis. It supports Brim Height (in layers) so that you can create a multi-layer brim (instead of just 1 layer high).

I print a 10mm Brim and position my parts so that I can use clamps to grab the edge. This is a little dicey because the clamps can interfear with the movement of the bed. Need to find some long nosed thin tweeser type clamps.
