Pololu's overheating?

I am new to ramps, I can print 5 min items fine but after the first 5 min they skip steps and the extruder sometimes will just twitch , no heatsinks just a fan right on top of them . Is the heat the problem?

I've never run the Pololu's without a heat sink. Ecept for when an erant wire or such would knock one off. usually resulting in the loss of the Pololu.

I don't think you can get enough heat disipation without a heatsink. Even if the voltage is perfectly set.

The stepper drivers can overheat. Try lowering the motor current.

Adding a heatsink would also help.

add a fan to flow over the board. the board has a large gnd pad area that pulls heat away from the chipset. a fan will be the most effective thing you can get over the chipset. using heatsinks may allow running without a fan, but fan is still the #1 failsafe. the polulu board acts like a heat sink also.

what voltage are you running, what type of motors and at what speed are you running your machine at?
