White ABS. Coloured in sections of the filament (prior to extruder) with red, green and black sharpie pens smiling smiley Obviously only the surface of the filament is coloured.

Pondering he possibility of 'just in time' colouring of the outside of he filament, just prior to the Hot End.

Amazing! Excellent job!!

I've seen coloring done this way a few times and I think this is the way to go.

It could be interesting to work on a system like traditional printers with ink.

I've run some Sharpie colored filament, I highly suggest not to!!!

The marker ink is only on the surface of the material, and as the filament feeds thru the extruder, the ink will deposit on the inside of your hot end and nozzle.

A better way is Rit dye method because it actually penetrates the filament, and is not just on the surface.

This is a really interesting idea that could be developed further I think.

You could just buy clear transparent filament and inject whatever coloured pigment you want. A multicolour automatic system?

Take a look at what Rich of Rich-Rap does with tie-dye [richrap.blogspot.com]

i just use pens to color the white filament before it enters the machine, works very well, just not accurate, good for vase's and things like that
