One Idea would be to create a Prepreg filament, then lay it up to required shape in the printer, then cure it in an oven after.

The bit that puzzles me with this approach to 3d printing, is that without a mould surface, consolidation of the laminate would be next to impossible without deforming the printed shape.

Without consolidation, the laminate would surely be full of voids, meaning the part would be susceptible to interlaminar failure under relatively low loads/ forces....

Or am I missing something!?

I think the way to look at this is a stronger version on 3d printed goods, not a method to replace carbon laminates.

Theres Carbon fiber reinforced polymer and theres Carbon (fiber)
They add carbon to plastic all the time at my work they use it for TPO parts for the auto industry
edit wow is that markfor3d filiment really $550 per lb?
