[Beginner] Question over Prusa I3
February 01, 2015 06:21AM
Hello,
First sorry if i am in wrong section of the forum, I am totally new.
I want to start in 3D printer world with a RepRap because for me it's the best option to start good and cheap.
I have done some research and the Prusa I3 seems to be a good printer to begin.
I wanted to know if it was really a good printer to start ? If it was not too old or too hard to build ?
I also find a seller which is selling the kit for ~450€ and have got a good notation on ebay (100% satisfaction) and it's cheaper to buy on his website.
I wanted also to know if it was a good price (here is the link) or if it was too expensive for "the package" ?

Thanks in advance

I have the frame "rod" version like that and it has been working well. There is a lot of parts to make i3 better, so it does not get "old" very easily. Easier and cheap is to buy 30A power for your printer: [www.ebay.com]

If you have basic soldering skills etc. it is not difficult to build. Just because of many variations and documentation it can take many hours to build.

Thank you for your reply smiling smiley
I have soldered a long time ago, but I have good relation with guys who are "high skilled" in soldering so it's not a real problem.
For the power supply, i prefer to not buy one from US, I want to buy inside EU because it's cheaper in fact. (if i buy outside i have to pay importation fee which too expensive)
Is 20A power supply is good enough or I really have to buy a 30A ?

I am really from EU too. I bought my kit from here: [www.kitprinter3d.com]

Ugh! the X-carrier was missing and I had to build my own made of plastic tube, metal plate and wood. And then print the original part...
But kitprinter3d.com seems to have optional parts and frame etc. in good price. The delivery was expensive 50€ for me.

It is better to have that 30A for the heated bed etc. later lights and so.... when it is not much more expensive.

25€ power 30A
[www.kitprinter3d.com]

That soldering thing was just to solder some simple switches to wires.

P.S. The prices are rising because the euro is going down.

From Spain it's ok then.
But i expect to not have missing part in it and if shipping is so expensive then my first website seems to be better

Hello,

The schufco prusa i3 kit does not require soldering.
About the power supply, from the RAMPS 1.4 wiki page:
" The bottom pair of connectors marked 5A power the stepper drivers and Extruder heater/fan (D9, D10). The source should be rated a minimum of 5A.
The pair of connectors above marked 11A power a Heated Bed, or other output (D8)."

So 20A for the power supply will be more then sufficient.
