Im connecting a standard heating cartridge into a ramps 1.4.

Something like:

-font-b-3d-b-font-font-b-printer-b-font-accessory-up-font-b-3d.jpg

I plugged my cartridge into d10 and thermistor into t0, powered on and fried a fuse. So, do I need a resistor connected to my hotend wires?

Is it a 40W cartridge for 12V?
How long did it take to blow the fuse?

A resistor in series would get very hot.

I believe so, but I will have to check when I get a chance on Wednesday.

Started to see smoke almost instantly. Unplugged everything and felt the fuse and it was hot.

Sounds like you have a short between the wires to the heater.

Make sure that the heatsinks of the MOSFETs for the nozzle heater and bed heater aren't touching.
