Use of a different stepper driver

Hi there

Can I use this stepper driver instead of a pololu?? please see attached file.

If so would it provide better performance?

In regards to wiring up,

the DC + and - and motor out puts I understand.

Do I obtain input (PUL, DIR, ENA) from the RAMPS board, I think have located the corresponding output pins.

I assume that they connect to the corresponding '+' inputs on the driver.

However how do I hook up the '-' inputs on the driver?

Any help, so I do not blow any thing would be appreciated.

Arnold.

Yes, you can use that. Connect the - inputs to the ground on the RAMPS board.

The max voltage is limited to 24V with that driver and 2A, barely better than the Pololu drivers on the RAMPS board (though it will probably be MUCH more reliable). If you want to get a performance boost, look for a driver that will allow higher voltage and run the motor from its own power supply. Also, that's a chopper driver, like the pololu part. If you want the machine to run super quiet, look for a DSP based driver. You can get DM542 drivers for only about $30- you'll have higher voltage capability, higher current, and DSP control for quiet operation.

Thanks for that dentist,

Just to confirm as I wire it all up.

DIR out on RAMPS go to DIR +
STEP out on RAMPS go to PUL +
EN out on RAMPS go to ENA +

I connect all '-' to a GND pin.

There a 2 pins marked GND would it matter which one.

Then I can use an external power for DC + and -

Thanks in advance for any information.
