Cannot flash firmware to Gen6 board

Dear all,
After a very long time, I finally had the opportunity to finish my Orca0.2 (yes, I know, it's a very old model) and am now trying to adapt the Marlin firmware to my particular RepRap. However, when I try to flash the newly compiled firmware to my Gen6 electronics, I get

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00
avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x51

I selected Sanguino as the board and the correct COM port, am using Arduino0018 on a Windows XP computer, and have downloaded the Marlin firmware as well as the Sanguino folders from mendel-parts.com. The code compiles without any error messages. Also, the board appears to be working correctly otherwise, when I talk to it with Repetier the motors move about etc and the extruder heats up. It also reports the extruder temperature to the computer, so the USB connection seems to be fine.

I am obviously making some very silly, basic mistake. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks very much,

Thomas

This might help....

Arduino can become sand boxed by your anti-virus / firewall software.

Or your board might not have the arduino comparable boot-loader installed.

If you "search" the forums, I'm sure all your questions will be answered.
