LM8UU Z axis - Spring needed?

Hello, I am working on switching my prusa over to lm8uu bearings. On the Z axis are you supposed to use the two nuts with a spring in between like the original? Or do you just use one nut for the bottom like on the Longboat Prusa. I guess the Longboat's instructions are confusing me. Prusa Longboat. Thanks in advance!

With LM8uu on the Z, you can get it running pretty smoothly such that the springs arent required. Gravity will do the job for you. It helps if your rods are very parallel, and my rigid x ends can help with that (see [www.thingiverse.com] ).

I just found a suitabe spring I had on hand and cut it in half. Of course I had already bought 10 of them from Mcmaster Carr. smiling smiley

It works like an anti-backlash nut when you use the spring. Keeps the two nuts pressed to the outer thread and keeps from binding.
