Weird and unexpected retractions
June 07, 2013 05:39AM
Hi all
I've finished building a repstrap based on the wolfstrap and printing has began.
I'm using Gen 7 1.5 electronics running the Teacup firmware and Repetier Host using slic3r 0.9.9 and I've a 0.30 mm J-Head MK5 hotend printing with 3 mm PLA.
During the printing I see rather often a big and very fast retraction of the filament where a regular retraction should suffice. When this happens the printer will continue to print but without extruding filament for quite some time and the end result is a ruined print. FYI I've slic3r configured with a 0.5 mm retraction which is sufficient for my setup.
Can anyone please try to explain what can be happening and how to solve it ?
Thanks in advance.
Michele

Hey Michele,

Have you turned off retraction and tested that the filament if feeding through at the rate you expect? (i.e. if you tell it to extrude 20mm, you've measured that it is sending 20mm through?)

If that's already set up my guess would be an issue with your extruder acceleration settings or E-jerk value. I'm not familiar with teh Teacup firmaware though.
