one for the heated bed one for the hotend that I understand, however what are the specs of the thermistors supposed to be?
Because that's the only thing that I really have not found any doc's on here maybe I'm just missing it

The main requirement is 100K and rated for 300C for the extruder, see [reprap.org].
Most people use the same one for the bed but that only needs to be rated for 150C and, as somebody pointed out in another thread, a diode could be used. That would be cheaper but you need to create a new table for the firmware.
