[solved in 0.7.0] Work around for Slic3r skipping layers.

This is no longer needed as of 0.7.0

As I have mentioned [forums.reprap.org] an others have mentioned [forums.reprap.org] Slic3r has a bug that makes it skip layers for no apparent reason on good clean models.

The simple solution seems to be rotating the model on z by an arbitrary amount, re-save and then re-slice. I have found with some models you may need to try a few times but it seems to work.

Thanks for the tip.

What software did you successfully use to achieve that rotate trick ? Tried any that didn't work ?

Most of my technical comments should be correct, but is THIS one ?
Anyway, as a rule of thumb, always double check what people write.

I usually use RepG to orient my parts (click rotate on z and just move it randomly). Some times I open Blender to do it too. Both have worked. I have found using the rotate in Slic3r has some effect too, not always helpful thou.

Next release (don't ask me when, but soon), will make this thread very outdated ;-)

@Sublime, can you provide a link to the STL file you took these pictures from?

The gear is based on Triffid Hunters Herringbone Gears but has been modified to fit on a motor. The files have not been released to the public yet as I am still in testing so I will have to upload them here.

I have zipped it because it exceeds the forums limit. I have included my profile as well.

@Sublime, that model is reported as broken by Netfabb, and has visible glitches. See screenshot:

You mant want to repair it and retry slicing.

Well it has been run through Netfabb and Blender says it is manifolded and shows no errors.

To be sure I didn't upload the wrong file I downloaded it from the link above and ran it through Netfabb again.

Sublime,

I've downloaded your zip too, and the Netfabb desktop application shows degenerated faces all around. Are you sure the zip contains the right file? smiling smiley

Sorry my fault. Overwrite existing files was turned off and it did not complain about it.

I have sliced the correct file and now the center part is solid from top to bottom (not sure if this is really needed).

I have marked the thread as solved as of slic3r 0.7.0

Thanks again for your hard work. Slic3r is amazing.
