Latest firmware version has now a setting if you want it enabled or disabled. In the online configurator it will show up if you select a pin for case lights.

For the second question I do not see the problem. You go to zero with G28 then you do the same with G1? Do the command get send to the firmware and from which software are you sending, we have 3 which can do it.
