installing old slic3r (0.7.2b) version
December 26, 2012 07:35AM
I would like to use old vertion of slic3r 0.7.2b with the current Repetier-Host 0.82b
Can I just rename the slic3r folder and unzip the files from 0.7.2b ?

It is not that easy. The problem is the Slic3r < 0.9.0 has a different configuration handling.

The best way is to place the old Slic3r somewhere else and tell Repetier-Host the new position. Then you have to trick out the software. The host merges the config from 3 files selected in the slic3r config folder, namely "filament","print" and "printer". Create in two of them a empty file named empty.ini and store you slic3r configs in the third folder. Then select in the host the two empty files and your config. That should work.

In windows the slic3r config files are a bit hidden in App data/local or roaming . Serach for a directory named slic3r and you will find. Have currently no windows here to check myself.

I created 3 new folders "filament", "print" and "printer".
In "filament" and "print" I created empty.ini.

How do I do this?

I found the slic3r directory in the "C:\Program Files\Repetier-Host\Slic3r"
In there I created the directories.

They should already be there if you used the 0.9 version. They are in path /Users//AppData/Roaming/Slic3r

Wrong dir see above. The host only looks into the above mentioned directory. As soon as you start using that dir, the host will show the files in the config selectors.

I found the directories in /Users//AppData/Roaming/Slic3r
Put in each one an empty ini file - Press "SLICE" and it works.

If I try to edit the config file by pressing the "configure" button
The 0.7.2b configuration editor is started.
After I change a parameter I try to save it by replacing one of the empty config files.
This causes the error:
08:22:06.781 : Argument "\x{32}\x{30}..." isn't numeric in printf at C:/PROGRA~1/Repetier-Host/Slic3r/lib/std/Slic3r/Print.pm line 738.

I tried to debug the ini file and find the problematic line - without success.

One importantrule I forgot is the filament configs must be the empty one. These get combined by the host which could lead to errors. It is either the print or printer config that is not empty, all other must be empty to prevent double parameter. Not sure if this is the problem but it looks like SLic3r couldn't read it's own config.

Sometimes when I get this problem I needed to delete the Slic3r.ini in the parent directory from the 3 config dirs.
