Hot End fail while printing

Hot End fail while printing
June 07, 2014 07:03AM
Hi,

i have almost one week my ormerod finished and the prints are very good.

Since yesterday i have a strange fail while printing.

It starts regular to print and sometimes the hot end lost the temperature and cools down to ambient temperature. The another function goes further and so the extruder drives the filament into a cool hot end.
and the print fails.

The web interface shows -273 degrees when it fails. After power off/on the atx power supply it works again.

Does someone has an solution/hint for this?

Greetings.

I'm not sure, but I suspect that the firmware shuts off the hot end heater when it detects an abnormally low temperature reading. A reading of -273 suggests a break in the hot end thermistor connections, so that would be the first thing I would check.

It could be that the connection is poor and fails when the hot end heats up, then starts working again once it cools down.

It's most likely a poor contact or poor crimp in the 6-pin hot end connector, on the pins that connect the thermistor. I had a similar problem.

Hi,

yes it was the crimp contact direct on the hot end thermistor.

Thanks to all.
