Hi Davek0974,
I've never fitted the back panel on the electronics box, and I've always had a remote spool holder (and i think most other people have a remote spool holder of some kind). You can definitely just chase the end of the previous filament with the start of another spool - as long as you're there and your vigilance is up to it (mine isn't always!), just keep pushing it in gently until the extruder grabs it
