PLA How extruder temp effect strength

Hi all !
I am new here on this forum and terrible on English but i make a go for it.

First Thanks for all god info from this forum.

I made a test whit different extruder temps to see how strong they get.

Settings: Z0.24 perimeters 0.75
Filament : Filament print (get whit the ormerod)

Tested temps 155 160 165 170 175 180 185 190 195 200 205

155-170 bad bonding.
175- 180 ok but did not test how strong
185 snapped whit 3.1 Kg load
190 snapped whit 3.7 Kg load
195 snapped whit 4.2 Kg load
200 snapped whit 5 Kg load
205 snapped whit 5 kg load

Good to know when you fix whit the extruder temp

Good stuff

What were the parameters for the test, is under tension or torsion etc, dimensions of test part ?

It pretty much backs up the default temps of 190-195 so that's very good.

Retired now but I used to make....
CNC Machined Mk1 aluminium bed support plates for the Ormerod
CNC machined X-plates and ribs for Mk1 & Mk2 Ormerods
CNC machined bed support arms for the Mk2 Ormerod.
Dual Hot-End heatsink blocks.

Hi Ran!

I have been wondering about that, thank You much for sharing your results and adding value to the forum - and never mind if your spelling or wording is perfect or not - it doesn't matter!

Hi Ran,

Thank you so much for sharing this test.

I have made a lot of tests with different temperatures, regarding print-quality.

For PLA about 190C gives me the best prints (evenness, bridging, thin features, etc), but it's obviously a trade-off for the strength - as your tests show.

For ABS I have got similar temperature dependency for the strength - by just pulling thin parts apart with my hands (no measurements). Unfortunately I have not had the time or equipment to do any measurements.

How did you actually measure the snapping-force?

Best regards,

Carsten

Hi Carsten !

I hang a bucket in the hook and hold the other end in the outer corner (arrow at the picture) and added water in bottles to the bucket.
I only have a household scale so i needed to split the load up.
