So far out of touch, assistance please...
December 24, 2015 06:14AM
I have just brushed the cobwebs off my Mk1 ormerod after about a year of non use.

Things have changed a lot in connectivity, I used to have a pc laptop then i got it working on my Mac-Mini in safari. Now i am living on a Mac laptop and have no pc.

It has Iamburneys web interface, i can load the page in safari but it is text only - no graphics and refuses to talk to the printer, i can ping the printer ok.

Any ideas how i get working again, no idea what firmware etc is loaded, can't remember even how to use it but that will come back i'm sure winking smiley

The first thing you need to do is get so that you can update the firmware. This can be tricky from a Mac, so I suggest you search for the threads on it.

Ok, so i have installed the Mac version of Arduino and added support for SAM boards as explained here

Mac Arduino

So, before i push the magic ERASE and RESET buttons, what firmware do i need????

Please bear in mind this Ormerod is a Mk1 with standard single hot-end and dc42's modulated IR probe etc

Thanks

You need to locate bossac on your Mac installation, and download new firmware. I suggest either my 1.09m-dc42 release via [github.com], or my 1.09o-dc42-beta-2 release at [dl.dropboxusercontent.com], or chrishamm's (alias zombiepantlol's) 1.09o release. Check that the downloaded file size is around 230Kb. Check that your Mac can see the Duet as an Arduino Due. Then press Erase and pray.

Mac thinks its a keyboard so i cancel that installer.

I tried the comman line stuff but it cant see a device on the tty port or some such.

Have pressed erase and reset, it was seen by the mac as before but still cant see a device.

Why are we still messing with command line stuff? Can nobody write a simple installer for doing direct ugrades from a file download?? Is it really that complex?

Are there no mac native installers?

Yeah that was the thread i linked to above, followed all that apart from trying the experimental stuff in the last entry, nothing seems to work here yet.

Stuck with an erased Mk1 and not getting very far, when is there going to be a foolproof app for flashing these things?

Might be worth looking at this Arduino thread [forum.arduino.cc]. This guy claims to have a working GUI version of bossac for OSX Maverick supporting Arduino Due.

Ok, thanks, I have just tried again and this time after a bit of messing around in the command line app I have managed to flash and get a good response back.

I did not know you could drag and drop into command line on mac, I pasted the command from the thread linked, erased the word bossac, then dropped my bossac file onto the editor and it filled in the location of the app properly, then i erased the upload file name and dropped the new file from my desktop in so it filled in the name correctly and pressed enter - it worked. The tty port was the one listed as tty.modem1421 on my setup.

Now, my next issue - I can get a good ping so i loaded up the browser page and this time it looked perfect again BUT the connect button just switches from Connect to Retrying, no connection is happening.

I rebooted the ormerod.

Any ideas here??

Have you also updated the Web files on the SD Card (You need CH's DWC 1.07) DWC1.07

As well as the new www files, you will need to update config.g. See the sample config.g file in my repo for the Ormerod 1. I suggest you compare it with your own and add any missing lines, in particular you need the M574 line. You will also want pause.g and resume.g.

Getting there,

new web interface looks good, connected immediately too.

Y homes ok
Z refuses to home - no movement at all
X home the wrong way and chews the head into the end-stop.

You need to reverse the X motor connector on the Duet so that the cable colours are in the same order as the other motor cables.

Depending on what firmware you were running before, you may need to move the blue wire from the IR sensor to a different pin on the expansion connector. See the Ormerod 1 assembly instructions on the RepRapPro web site for the correct pin.

Ok

finally got another chance to play around

The X axis is now running in the right direction but the homing limit switch does not work anymore, this is using DC42's modulated IR board.

Any ideas??

Do you get sensible readings from the probe? Should be close to zero when not triggered, 465 when close to triggering, and 535 when triggered.

No problem. Why they have switched the colors? In that case nothing would have happened and there would not have been any confusion.

Ok, getting there now i think

I have the X, Y, Z homing OK using the individual buttons but the HomeAll code is duff and does not seem to work, I think i need to make a new HomeAll using combined X, Y, Z, files maybe??

Also the screen does not update properly, it works once or twice then although i still have control the values do not update so still cant use it sad smiley

I can heat the head but no temp changes on screen, I can heat the bed but changes on screen, I can move all axes but the displays do not update.

If i press Disconnect then reconnect it updates but only once.

Any help guys ?

This is the home-all code, cant figure out what any of it does really????

; Ormerod 1 homeall file for use with dc42 Duet firmware
; Adjust the bed upper and lower limits in config.g (M208 commands) to get the correct homing positions
G91
G1 Z4 F200 Lifts the head yes?
G1 X-240 Y240 F3000 S1 no idea why its sending the bed to -240???
G1 X4 Y-4 F600 in fact why all the negative values????
G1 X-10 Y10 S1
G90
; Adjust the XY coordinates in the following to place the IR sensor over a suitable spot
; If you are using a dc42 IR sensor then you can change the coordinates to be near the centre of the bed
G1 X45 Y0 F2000
G30
; This file leaves the head at the zprobe trigger height so that you can slip a piece of paper under it and then do G0 Z0 to check the height.
; If you prefer to send the printer to X0Y0Z0, un-comment the following lines
;G1 X0 Y0 F5000
;G1 Z0
