xlr and laptop power brick question

I'm using a laptop power prick as a power source for my mendel with an xlr connector. I really don't want to have to cut up the cord for the power brick since I use it with my secondary laptop. the one I have is the kind with the interchangeable tips. What's a good way to connect the wires from my xlr connector (connected to sanguinololu) to the power brick without butchering the thing?

Buy an XLR plug and a socket that fits the laptop cable and connect them together?

That's about it.

You should be able to find a power socket that fits one of your interchangeable tips, and wire that to the XLR plug.
