Hey I'm researching the possibilties of building a hot end / extruder myself.
can I use this resistor for the heating element (as it says in the title)
and is this a correct reprap hot end design (drawing shown down in the midlle of the product description)
I'm not familiar with that hot end design, but it looks like it should work to me. The J-head design seems to be one of the more popular ones used now. The north90 hot end also looks interesting to me if you want to make something with limited tools.
