Inline connectors for hotend

Inline connectors for hotend

Hi all. Can anyone recommend a particular type of inline connector for connecting the wires on my hot-end to the cable attached to my controller board?

At the moment I have cables running all the way from my PCB (where they are attached by Molex connectors) to the resistor / thermistor leads on the hot-end. It would be useful to detach the cable from the hot-end on occasion - e.g. when removing/making improvements to the hot-end - rather than having a metre long cable permanently attached to the hot-end.

What I'm thinking of is something like Johann is using here in his Rostock: [www.flickr.com] .

Is there some sort of inline Molex connector that would do this?

I guess I could just use SIL sockets + pins? They don't seem ideal though.

Spark fun has these. Maybe not the cheapest, but they'll do

I use these: [ca.mouser.com] along with the associated receptacle: [ca.mouser.com] and pins: [ca.mouser.com] and [ca.mouser.com] .

Thanks guys. Both look like good options. My primary concern is crimping the wires. The last time I checked the crimping tools necessary are fairly expensive - so availabilty and price of these will be a factor in whether I choose a Molex or JST connector.

For one or two connectors I manage to crimp with pliers followed by a bit of solder

As with most things, the skies the limit on cost. However, there are cheap alternatives that work very well. I have a pair of these HT-202B crimpers and they work very perfectly, and the price is right (~$10).

I use a small pair of needle-nosed pliers for crimping. Takes a bit of practice but it works decently well.
