Aluminium-Cement Extruder - Pushing Manually

@erickwill - thanks for keeping the interest up, buddy smiling smiley ! Actually didn't want to "spam" into this forum branch, was only updating my blog... Tomorrow flying on vacation for two weeks to here, so nothing to expect from me soon... I hope to bring from there some cheap filament... Today I made the last test before the vacation.

QuadRap Learning to Plot its Name

@erickwill: Thanks buddy! I really had a nice a vacation in a really exotic (depends on prior experience) place winking smiley

Haven't done much since came back, because my daughter is visiting me and she is not excited with what old dad does. Today she is in a trip to Paris and when she's back we are going to Croatia -- a GREAT place to really relax and enjoy!

Sharing latest "achievements":

Packing Tape Drive Quality Test

Need ideas why trimming and big shifting is happening:

Packing Tape Drive Quality Test

Is it a bug in Repetier Firmware, Host or something I did wrong?

Thanks.

I am happy to inform about the success of the ultra cheap 3D printer I made and invite others to try it themselves the tutorial to build it

Increasing the drum diameter has a positive effect:

Light drums can be 3D printed and covered with liquid rubber spray.

Forget any Wear
March 13, 2014 03:14PM
There is a PTFE Teflon tube with inner diameter of Ø10mm and thickness of 1mm and sits tight on the bearings.
This let QuadRap have soundless carriages that NEVER wear the aluminum profiles they roll on:

Speed Limits are Behind Mechanics

Now put a dial indicator on a stand outside the printer and put the stylus against the frame. How much does the frame move? That is how far out of position the nozzle will be at high speeds. Everyone that builds a printer should do this, it would be an eye opener for many.

Light & Fast as a Racing Bike[/url]

Not a good idea for a machine racing bikes are flexible you do not want any flex in a machine. Gary is correct and when you started this build you even said you are going to mount it to the wall a sign of a bad design

That was a while back. What is your opinion of the diagonal bracing he's used?
Re: QuadRap
March 18, 2014 06:41PM
Where did you see diagonal bracing?
Re: QuadRap
March 18, 2014 07:37PM
You could make a set of simple corner braces with some flat stock which would lessen flex, and cost little to nothing...

3cm alu extrusion
March 28, 2014 06:15AM
What do people think of 3cm alu square extrusion, because here no one has 2cm extrusion. It will be stronger but heavier...
Re: 3cm alu extrusion
March 28, 2014 06:31AM
I have nothing against 3cm except that it reduces printable area and more expensive. 2cm has no problems with strength as I reported in my FEA post and 3cm is more expensive. For QR1000 I would take the 30cm anyhow.
Re: 3cm alu extrusion
March 28, 2014 06:37AM
3cm will increase the length of the bolts to use and lead to cascading increase in the structure as a whole. Perhaps worth to go with structural 2cm extrusion when available - the main thing in QR is the rolling instead of sliding, not the shape of the profile. simply I took the profile available in every town here in Germany

Re: QuadRap

The complete printer file should be QR-B2.sldasm - is it missing?
I have to admit that I have very surface knowledge about printers before QR and cannot say anything about, for example, "Misumi".
I hope someone else in the thread can bring you input...

What packing tape is used
March 28, 2014 03:20PM
What packing tape is used, make, width, amazon url please.
Re: What packing tape is used
March 28, 2014 03:32PM
Only as an example: http://www.ebay.de/itm/3000-m-Umreifungsband-12-mm-x-0-55-mm-PP-200-mm-Kern-schwarz-/271264464209?pt=Verschlussmittel_F%C3%BCllmaterial&hash=item3f289f3d51 QR uses 5mm for the table and 12mm for the drives. It is possible to adjust the table to use the same 12mm. Important are two things:
  1. The band surface is cross over, not parallel
  2. have to apply liquid rubber spray to the rubber pulleys to avoid slippage

Check out RepRap Magazine Issue #3 for full details of the QuadRap design as it has developed up to now...
