linier guides?

hi every one,

can some one list out the diferent metals and other stuff used for linier bareings guide/rod? as in the round bar.

whats the diference between carbon steel and A2 steel for instance?

an example on the seller info list 'Hardened and Precision Ground and Polished Round Rail / shafting'

in particular about this, is A2 stainles harder/softer? which is better suited to X Y and Z axis guides.

and in for a penny in for a pound.. which bareing for which shaftings?

help please?

On wiki you find different grades of precision. "H9" is what I was looking for last time I bought some.

Stainless steel should be hard enough but the precision of the roundness and straightness is worth looking at. and the budget is the rest.
