lCD wiring question

I have quickly wired up an old 16x2 lcd I hd sitting around and it seems to be working however I can't find how to wire up the pot for the options menu etc. also there is no backlight. Any suggestions

... could it be, that the 'A'/'K' pins names the Anode/Kathode pins of the backlight?
