Stepper Motor HOT, Too hot

Stepper Motor HOT, Too hot

So my Y axis motor
runs at about 160 degrees F
Which concerns me because it is the only motor that runs obscenely hot. I've checked the wiring and adjusted the pot, but nothing seems to work. The bed moves freely with no more hassle than the others. Any ideas?

Steppers only get hot when the current is set to a high value. Keep in mind that it takes a while for a motor to cool down so adjusting the current (potentiometer on the driver) does not result in an immediate change of temperature. Set the current to the lowest setting where you don't loose steps and let the machien run for a while, then chekc the temperature.

I had this problem with 2 of my motors, swapped out the drivers and problem sorted.

The stepper will get hot if it's working too hard too. Eg, on my extruder, I had the pinch wheel too tight against the filment, putting lots of pressure on the motor shaft, it also caused it to work harder than it should and heat up. Once I backed off the pinch wheel, it cooled down.
