white screen of death

Hello, I am Martin Paulissen and have a DIY REPRAP 3D printer.

I work with Marlin 1.1.9 and Arduino 1.8.5. on a windows machine.

I have printed nice stuff with my printer but suddenly it dies during printing. The first time the display was completely white (see attached file) on later occasions it just died without any error message.

Who can help me to find out what's wrong.

Martin

I would try a restore the factory settings

From a terminal such as the ones in Cura / Pronterface
Send a M502 Factory Reset.
Send a M500 Save Settings.

When flashing new firmware the Configuration settings need to over written. Restoring the New Firmware Settings eliminate some erroneous errors.

If you are providing the Arduino/RAMPS with 12V power only, then the 5V regulator on the Arduino is probably overheating. This is a known issue with using Arduino/RAMPS and a graphical LCD.

I ran a test with the USB cable connected to my laptop and so far no sign of the white screen.

A couple of days ago I installed 2 fans to cool my RAMPS. That seems the problem, but I don't understand. Overheating and cooling are each otherw opposite, right?

I flashed my firmware again and the problem seems gone, I hope for ever.

Thanks for helping.

Could it be the microcontroller received a higher than normal voltage? That could mess up flash memory.

Many things can happen when flashing firmware using a USB cable, when flashing firmware use the shortest USB cable possible and highest quality cable for best results...

Do not use a cheap cables they will give you nothing but grief.
