I print stock Rework X ends (from the bq repo), both sides, with no support. You may need to tune your bridging and for the the lower angular part of the upper motor mount hole can get a bit deformed.
There is a modified X idler end with a belt tensioner where I have to use support.
One place the Simplify 3D really shines is the abiity to edit the support or add it by hand. The downside is the program is US$150.
Earlier this year I started building dual head machines using one head for PVA support on PLA prints and HIPS support on ABS. After a slight learning curve configuring a dual head machine it works really well.
