Prusa i3, CURA, how to enable bed leveling
October 08, 2016 11:17AM
Hello,
I have a prusa i3 clone and after a few mods I am getting some pretty good prints out of it.
However pain is checking the bed level before every print.

It has a MKS Base v1.2 controller board and I am using cura 15.04.6 which seems to have a bed level option in it.

So how to enable bed levelling please?

What sort of sensor do I need where do I plug it in please etc?

Many thanks in advance imk

It's not CURA which has to be able to do bed levelling, it's the MKS Base's firmware that has to have this option. Maybe it needs an update to marlins latest version?

in CURA you only have to change the start-code and add G29 or G30 or whatever the actual ABL code in marlin is...

Which probe you'd use depends on you bed surface. Shiny reflective surface is bad for IR probes, glass surface is bad for inductive sensors. A simple microswitch works with every surface, but is less accurate. ( well, it's good enough for my delta, so I'd give it a try )

Instructions how to mount the sensor and connect it to the controller depends again on your choice of sensor.

BTW: I only levelled the bed on my Prusa, after I moved the printer. It's not necessary to do it before every print.
