Geeetech firmware

Ok I have been struggling with this for about 2 weeks now and I had to step away from it to stop my brain overheating.

So I have a geeetech I3 pro B printer that ran with out a problem until I used the new cura update which totally scrambled its movement.

I downloaded the new marlin and used the I3 pro B profile which compiled and loaded fine.

With the help of a forum user on here called dust I went through all the basics of the code and ensured the everything is as it should be. (Many thanks to him for his advice and patience)

Now comes the issues

The z axis will raise but wont home.

The x axis emits a loud buzzing and homes but the motor continues to pull as if the end stop is not there.
The y axis is demonstrates a similar problem.

The LCD panel shows the axis positions but continually flashes with a question mark even when homed.

My experience with code is limited so any advice would be great

send the printer a M503 and post the results (report settings)

you have set DISABLE_M503 in your configuration.h

so that told us nothing.

please enable M503 in configuration.h and try again.

Ie make sure the line starts with // eg

//#define DISABLE_M503

I have changed nothing in the firmware at all mainly because I'm not confident doing so. I'll try again with the new setting.

Still says 14:35:26.848 : echo:Unknown command: "M503"

which means its still disabled.

OK that was an oversight on my part, I didn't Check the code before sending it to the printer sad smiley
so I added // in front of the command to disable it and reloaded it.
this is the new result

the move feed rates look ok, which is what I wanted to see with the M503, and to verify you where really updating the firmware.

The answer you have provided so far are confusing...

Lets just work on the Z for now.

There are only three reasons a Z axis will not home when it can move up (that I know of)
1) the end stop is already triggered
2) the feed rate are two high
3) the stepper driver current is to low.

1) you test this with M119. Make sure the Z endstop is not being touched by anything. You send the controller a M119, it should reply that Z min is open. Now hold down the Z endstop with a finger and while holding it send a M119. It should now say Z min triggered. Check this is what is happening.

2) If the feed rate is to high the axis will normally make a buzzing sound while refusing to move. The feed rate for homing in marlin is in the Configuration.h file, the line "#define HOMING_FEEDRATE_Z (4*60)" so try "#define HOMING_FEEDRATE_Z (1*60)" ie make it very slow, 1mm/s. Save the file, recompile in the Arduino IDE and upload to the controller.

3) On each stepper driver is a variable resistor that controls how much current the stepper motor gets. But if this used to work... any chance you swapped stepper drivers around? so the driver current is not correct for the axis it is on?

check 1 and if it is working correctly try 2.

So I've checked everything you said to and I haven't changed the stepper drivers or connections around and these all worked fine until all this problem started.
I have changed to homing feed rate to (1*60) and this has had no effect.
M119 shows the z endstop working as it should
On trying to home the z axis the message comes back ;

Echo:Home XY first

However both axis are sitting in the home positions.

Ok, its a new safety feature, trying to make things idiot proof just makes testing harder...
Try sending the following gcode

G92 X0 Y0 ; tell the printer X is at 0 and Y is at 0
G28 Z ; home Z
