I am not aware of a maximum capacity, although I imagine there would be a problem if you exceed 2 terabytes because the sector numbers would no longer fit in 32 bits. I have used 2Gb, 4Gb and 16Gb cards.
The upload speed varies somewhat with the brand and the capacity. See [forums.reprap.org] for some measurements I took.

I have an SD card of 32GB, which is supposed to be the maximum capacity of SDHC cards.
Is the Duet accepting SDXC ( > 32 GB ) ?

No idea, I haven't tried! I haven't got close to filling up my 4Gb cards yet.
