I haven't had time to finish getting my extruder working yet so I can't speak from personal experience but FWIW, many people speak highly of Wade's geared extruder and its variants. I had torque problems with the stock non-geared extruder that I'm hoping Wade's design will solve. Rob.by robsweet - General
Just FYI, unless the place with the FDM is cleaning up the parts for you (and if you're getting a deal, they're probably not), you'll need to do that yourself. The support material used by a Stratasys FDM machine is something similar to PLA. To dissolve it, you soak the parts in a bath of warm water and lye for at least a few hours. I just left mine in overnight. If you're in the US, you caby robsweet - General Mendel Topics
FWIW, I went with 1/2" MDF with countersunk mounting holes. The 1/4" that I saw was bowed and I wanted to make sure my print bed was flat. I'd be concerned with 1/8" being flat and staying that way. Let us know what you choose and how it works out. Robby robsweet - General Mendel Topics
Hey, thanks for coming out today, everybody. It was really nice to put some faces with the names I've been seeing. I hope everybody got some of their questions answered - I know I did. Robby robsweet - Atlanta, Georgia RepRap User Group
If you can dig up any info on those steppers, Holding Torque is the stat that you want to look at. Which gears are you thinking that you'll need to go commercial for? I emailed Johnny last night asking him to bring down some green PLA for me. My ABS is black and I don't want to get them confused. FWIW, I was thinking the other day that if someone were going to print out sets to sell, it woby robsweet - Atlanta, Georgia RepRap User Group
I have and it looks interesting but a heated bed will be additional cost for either machine. It sounds like a heated bed is the way to go so I'll be working on one as soon as I get the basics working properly. Rob.by robsweet - Atlanta, Georgia RepRap User Group
As close as the meetup is, I'd recommend waiting until after that to make your decision. I'd be happy to share some of my experiences in building my Mendel and I'm sure that the others coming will do the same - that's why we're all meeting, right? For some pictures of my build progress, have a look at . I've got a good bit of info in the captions as well. I plan on writing up some of my buby robsweet - Atlanta, Georgia RepRap User Group
With a little luck, I should be printing by then. Rob.by robsweet - Atlanta, Georgia RepRap User Group
Well, that's good news for everybody. Thanks!by robsweet - Atlanta, Georgia RepRap User Group
I think our orders were placed last week but there are at least two of you interested in ordering more parts. I'd see if you could get one or two more people and use Sheepdog's info to do your ordering. Good luck. Rob.by robsweet - Atlanta, Georgia RepRap User Group
Rob == RobSweet Yes, I'm willing to switch. I've got to make arrangements to pick up my printed pieces (sometime this week) but I've got my electronics and most of the other odds and ends so I'm mostly waiting on the rod and fasteners to get this show on the road.by robsweet - Atlanta, Georgia RepRap User Group
I think I'm inclined to go with the cheapest option. I'm not wild about the unfinished steel but I'm more confident that things will work properly with metric rods. As we don't think that the imperial parts will matter for the rest, I figure that we might as well save the $40. So we've got two with you and I. Anybody else on board?
