Hi Fourwagons, What firmware and what are you using to control the printer, Repiter,, PrintRun or something else? Once you have it moving in all directions, I have one word, Calibration. after that its pretty simple.by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
Devil, That's really cool, its amazing how many applications that 3d printing can be of use with. Folgers do seem to be affordable and popular. I built my first printer when there weren't a lot of kits available, so the majority of it was my own fabrication. Most of the stuff I could find was coming out of Europe, now its a different ball game with China involved. I started out thinking I wouldby Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
Hey Devil, Around Lima then I guess. Is the Folger your first 3d Printer and how long have you had the i3? My current project is a full sized Acoustic Guitar, not yet complete.by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio

How long have you had the i3? I have one mendel max 1.5 and one custom machine thats a little larger. Your welcome to see the other posts for the toledo forum , i think i have pictures of both listed.by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
Ho, Humm, Toledo....."You wont do better in Toledo" because apparently no-one does anything.....by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
Well since The Toledo crowd is as expected... NON EXISTANT. I will post pics of the MedelMax. I finally completed it after about 2 years....Here ya go !!by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
I used it on a direct drive. It did function, but takes a lot of patience.by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
I would like to smash the gear on the left with a hammer, send it back to the people who provided it and ask for a year of my personal time back....Then I want to order a "dozen" more of the one on the right .by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
After about a year witrh the raptor type drive gear I was starting to throw tools and cuss a lot. Then I ordered a mk7 style gear and immediately I was at peace and my printer was working 10 times better. It really was a night and day difference. The extruder I own came with a raptor gear so I figured it would at least work pretty well. Then I suspected it was causing many issues and had my friby Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
getting there with the MendelMax, printing the parts I need in ABS, then just a few more and I can put it together.by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
I have implemented ABL on my larger printer. I would recommend it for anyone who has first layer issues due to an uneven bed. I crashed the head at least 10 times and broke about 4 servos in the process, but now that I know what I am doing, it works very well. ( you still have to be care-full though ) It's almost a must have for large fixed beds.by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
Come -on are the no other Makers in Toledo....just like this town I guess, good people but its always been kind of an unfriendly place.by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
Printing ABS directly on glass now, using Elmers disappearing purple glue stick at around 100c. Tricks that work for me seem to be : 1) Put light coat of glue on clean cold glass and let dry for 10 minutes. 2) Clean off after a couple days and re-apply, or it will loose its gusto after being hot and cold a lot. 3) Don't put on hot, and don't add when hot. it doesn't work well. matter of fact aboby Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
Had to get rid of wind tunnel to print some ABS ON 8CuP, namely put Styrofoam in the basement window, and install on/off switches on 5 80mm fans. Big Fans I know, but they were retrofitted after the printer was built and they dint cost anything. Seems to be good though, no edges curling, and the bed is achieving better temperatures and the surface has even temps.by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
Yes: If you installed a stepper into a wire feeder, it would probably work well as a Bowden style ( feeder in a remote location ) as the wire feeders are kind of bulky and would not be directly adaptable to the hot ends out right now. Although you could easily machine hot end to fit the wire feeder I suppose. Truthfully the direct drive extruders work pretty good aka: mk7 or qu-bd , even the greby Wallmaster - Cleveland Ohio - RepRap Usergroup
Machinery Maker: It is possible, and in theory it would work well for a Bowden style extruder. But wire feed welders use regular dc motors, not steppers, so most of the current RepRap style electronics/software would not immediately support them without some heavy modifications. The use of steppers makes it possible to regulate the number of movements the motor makes down to a very fine amount,by Wallmaster - Cleveland Ohio - RepRap Usergroup
On faster machines, ABL would slow them down potentially ?by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
I plan to use ABL ( auto bed leveling ) on both my machines. I am thankful to the RepRap community for talking about it, as I am stubborn and probably would have never noticed it existed and was so easy to implement. For my larger machine it should be a life savor as was the case with acceleration in slic3r.by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
I was able to use some abs and print an x am working on the y carriage.by Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
I have also noted: that when the nozzle temperature is set wrong I see puffs of gas/smoke coming from the nozzle. Some may say the filament is wet and its burning off the excess moisture. I would guess that its just one the normal liquid elements ( Possibly Water Based ) in the filament that would usually evaporate slower and you would not see it. Most likely during the cooling phase. I would alsby Wallmaster - RepRap User Group - Toledo Ohio
